bottle from landbierparadies. rusty brown with a minimal head; flat texture; aroma of red berry; slightly dusty, bloody flavours redeemed by a pleasant rusty tea finish

A Mes rate: Gravity serving at Zeitgeist.
Cloudy mid brown with a good off white head. Sweet caramel notes, a lovely malt and hop balance with some bread and yeast in the aroma. Tangy sweetness in the mouth with some very good earthy malt, lovely nutty notes, tobacco and hoppage. Bitterish sour-dough bread finish.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2008 Bottle from Landbierparadies, Nurnberg. Deep chestnut colour with a big, frothy off-white head. Spicy cinnamon and caramel aroma. Light mouth feel with some chocolate malt and a decent dry finish. [3.1] Good. Second tasting - from the barrel at Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardeners, Lambeth 16/5/08. This had far more depth of aroma and flavour, with the spice more prominent, some earthy bitterness and a great dry finish. Excellent [3.7].

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark amber to medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, molasses), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of earth/peat, brown sugar, toffee. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/creamy texture, lively carbonation. Very neat brew...aroma is kinda like a Scotch ale, very peaty and richly malted. Doesn’t drink as richly as it smells, but it’s balanced well. Not far from 4+ status.

Erzengel (5503) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JAN 2, 2014

Bottle by 03.10.2012. Some nutty, earthy tones, maybe some chocolate/mocha in the otherwise weak, sweet nose. Dingy ruby-brown body with a rocky, creamy tan head. Taste is sweet, some caramel but much more toasty toffee and earth, nuts. faint fruit. Subtle scratchy bitterness, watery body, fun to take at a high speed.

Draft at Franconian beer festival and there described as a dunkles vollbier. Dark red-brown, short-lived but nice tan head. Full-on malt aroma is very friendly. Quaffable, very nice mouthfeel. Good pumpernickel raisin bread flavors. Dry finish, almost too dry but makes it more moreish. Very nice.

0.5 l bottle. Mahagony color with creamy peige head. Sweetish, toffeish, toasty, nutty, caramelly and a bit buttery aroma. Toffeish, toasty and nutty flavor with some buttery notes. OK, would be better with less butter.

(bottle) pours a clear dark ruby colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of heavy butterscotch and toffee, with some very light hints of toasted malts and gingerbread spice. flavour is the same, quite heavy on the butter, but somehow fittingly so, with some heavy grainy notes and a hint of chocolate. medium body and carbonation.

Bottle, from Vroni’s in Bamberg. Deep bronze, thin off white head and gentle condition. Caramel, horlicks and low hops in the nose, sweet and malty in the mouth with some breadiness and a mainly malty finish.
