Bottle. dark brown color. Malt, chocolate and caramel in the aroma. Malt, caramel and roast in the flavor. Roastbitter finish. Grassy notes. Well balanced. Don’t serve it too cold. 10 degrees Celsius will do fine.

Maria (10213) - Thisted, DENMARK - MAY 16, 2010
It’s a red-brown beer with a creamy head and the aroma has notes of roassted malt, caramel and nuts. The flavour is moderately, but dry sweetness with notes of roasted malt, syrup, caramel, nuts and the finish is dry.

pivnizub (10184) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - JUN 7, 2006
On tap (from a very fresh barrel) at the Brauereigaststätte: Chestnut coloured, firm mid-sized off-white head; slightly toasted, malty nose; mainly sweet flavour; light bodied, soft MF; delicate sweet-malty finish with a light, late coming bitterness. First impression: a bit too sweet, second impression: quite decent, well drinkable.......

(bottle, from pivnizub - thanks !) Clear, brown colour with a small beige foamy head. Sweet aroma of dark and toasted malt with toffee and shy notes of herbal hops. Initially sweet and aromatic toasted malty tasty with bread crusts and toffee; medium to light bodied with a smooth carbonation; sweetbitter malty finish. Rather one-dimensional but quaffable and well-crafted Dunkel.

Tap at the brewery. Orange-brown with a tall, airy head and slight, slow bubbles. Nose of toffee, coffee, brown sugar. A bit faint. Toasty, slightly roasty flavor; somewhat stout-like. Dry toast, caramel, coffee, oranges, peaches. Prickly finish with a bit of cinnamon. Dry and drinkable though not hugely interesting.

3fourths (9150) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 27, 2015
UPDATED: APR 11, 2015 From tap at the brewery in Stegaurach. Clear dark brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma impression is dark, toasty malt with notes of just-burnt bread crust and oily toasted almonds, while aroma hops are herbal and floral, along with the dark malt it gives the impression of anise / licorice. There’s also that distinct and pleasant mineral character that’s unique to Franconia. Medium bodied with noticeable malt richness, it’s lightly sweet with low bitterness, malt is somewhat chewy but the sugar level is moderate to low. In the mouth it’s more of a basic dark caramel syrup and caramelized sugar / pancake batter character, though the toasted grain and bread quality is still present, just not at the level found in the nose. Medium-low silky carbonation presents the malt well, it’s nicely soft and creamy with good flavor balance and no off-notes. It’s not the most expressive Dunkel but like the other Muller products it’s well-made and clean, it smells and drinks wonderfully. The flavor is almost an 8 but there’s a soft touch of what I describe as tootsie roll or caramel chew candy that keeps it at a 7. Still, this could easily be an everyday Dunkles for me, and exceeds the quality of nearly every off the shelf brown ale and dark lager made back in the states. Muller Debring is becoming one of my top-tier Bamberg-area breweries and should not be missed if you’re in the area for beer.
