3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle looks simple but really good. Beer in the glass a bit darker than exspected, nice head. Starts malty-yeasty, not too dry. Interesting hints of caramel. Mild fruity like apricot. Well balanced finish and quite drinkable. Good!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours hazy amber with stable, creamy off-white head. Clear aroma of yeast, hops and banana. Mildly sweet flavour of banana and malt with notable citric notes, a good deal of yeast and high carbonation. Sourish and rather mild aftertaste. I have no idea why it is classified as a Dunkelweizen. For me it is just a decent German Hefeweizen.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hazy light brown body with a huge fluffy white cap of foam. Nose has lots of banana and yeast, accompanied by a sour note. Taste is surprisingly light with a malty sweetness and a dry finish, some sourness is apparent here as well. Carbonation is average and palate overall a bit thin. This is decent but the color leads you to believe that it would be fuller.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 10, 2013 Ur-weisse rather than dunkelweisse. Simply called Weissbier by Simon.
First tried from a bottle best by November 2013.
Mealy apple and browned banana aroma.
Flabby and dull.
Sludgy and muddy yeast.
Soupy wheat / grain flavor and mouthfeel.
Smushed, browned red apples.
Again on draft at Fränkisches Bierfest in Nürnberg.
Little more life to this one. Clove and banana are nice.
Amber malt / wheat bread crust character has some bounce.
Still a little too yeasty. Masking.
Medium-low sweetness, medium carbonation, acids and phenols add vibrancy here but for me the hop and wheat character seem masked. I’m sure they nail this one most of the time, like they do with their other beer. I will keep re-trying. (3.4/5)

Bottle. Pours amber with a fluffy white head. Wheaty, with light sweetness, light banana, hints of toasted bread, and light nuttiness. Very well balanced.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
0.5l bottle. Orange body, off-white head. Aroma of banana with a noticeable spicyness. Pretty weak taste. Mostly banana and pepper. Watery mouthfeel. Nothing bad about it, but a bit too weak for me.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Head is initially large, frothy, white, fully lasting.
Body is hazy/cloudy medium amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain/bread, cookie), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of banana, orange marmalade, clove, pepper.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation.
A fantastic Ur-Weisse (which I’m sad that RateBeer still doesn’t recognize as a distinct style separate from Helles and Dunkles Weissbier...FWIW, this is the orangey-cookie-ish amber colored "Ur" variety, and my personal favorite of the three). Heck, I don’t even like Weissbier that much, and never have...but good grief, this is about as exceptional an example as you could ask for. Beautiful glowing amber appearance, fully lasting head, beautiful balanced aroma (not just banana, not just clove, etc.), excellent flavor balance (not too sweet or tart), very clean...what more could you ask for out of this style? I can honestly say I drank the entire bottle by myself, with great delight. This has Jeffy’s name all over it.
