3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jonb5 (120) - USA - FEB 6, 2012
Dark mahogany colour, medium to large head that was slightly tanned, slight haze. Smelled hints of phenol but mainly malts. Fairly sweet, tasted roasted malts with notes of dark chocolate and slight hints of grass. Fairly smooth for the style, was easier to drink than the Heller Bock.

Bottle from the brewpub Hazy amber color. Mild malt and caramel aroma, light bread. Good body strength, good caramel flavor, quite strong bitterness for this style. Quite well executed. Good.

Bottle… February in Franconia (2011)… Mostly clear amber lager with an orange tint and a small, creamy, off-white head. The bouquet is dominated by caramel, fruitcake and tawny port. Full-bodied and sticky with tingly carbonation. The flavor is a sweet blend of honey and crusted port. Finishes sweet and warming. Thanks go out to erlangernick and Koelschtrinker for making this month of Franconian lagers possible!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - NOV 10, 2010
50cl bottle form the Doemens stash. Clear amber to light brown color with a medium head that has ok retention. Pretty nutty on the nose with some light bread crust. The flavor has some rich melanoidin character going on, but it is more attenuated and dryer than I would expect from a 7.5%abv bock. MY guess is that they original extract came in below the limit for a doppel, and they pushed it to an unusually high degree of attenuation to get the alcohol up. Either way, it drinks at least a percent lower than it is. THe alcohol doesn provide some sweetness in the middle and a slight warmth in the finish though. Not too much going on, but decent balance and not hard to finish in the least.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Maria (8576) - Thisted, DENMARK - AUG 2, 2008
The color is nice, copper-red and the head is nice, huge and creamy. The aroma is alluring with notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of roasted malt, chocolate, a light citrussy bitterness and it ends on notes of chocolate and citrus. Of course it’s not like a stout, but the chocolate is an unexpected treat.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Tranquillity (1338) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 1, 2007
Helsinki Beer Festival 2007. Miles better than it’s hell-brother (pun intended). Nice bun aroma, cinnamon. Very light colour, small white head. Taste some alcohol, not much else except maybe some bitterness.
