COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks zvikar. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of yeast, flowers, some fruitiness and light hops. Sweetish fruity flavor, a bit spicy, with a dry finish with some bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Bottle (all of these BraufactuM beers [and their beautiful bottles] were from the Galeria Kaufhof am Alex), MHD 04.2012, this one checking in at 5.5%. Nose is sweet and loaded with citric hops - if this is Saphir, a Hallertauer derivative, then I’m amazed by the lemony and slight PNW tropical fruitiness. Light bread. Crystal-clear golden body with a creamy white head. Taste is lighty sweet, lightly bitter, with a delicate grainy malt, sunny and refreshing, in balance with cleansing citric hops, a touch of grass and pineapple. Clean and subtly floral; intensity of flavor makes it somewhat un-Kölsch-like. Creamy light-medium body. Excellent balance and grace. Impressed!

Bottle from Galeria Kaufhof, Köln
5.1% ABV on the front label, 5.5% ABV on the back label

Yellow color, with a straw hue. The aroma is mild, with mainly an herbaceous character, with a very light lemony touch; not enough to be interesting. The mouthfeel is dry and smooth, and the body is not too weak; there is a moderate malt and cereals flavor, with a light chamomile touch, and a quite strong bitterness.
As it’s difficult to make an interesting Kölsch, this one is not alone among the boring ones.

My Botton Line :
Outgoing spicy hops meet firm pils malts in this spritzy and elegant Rheinlandisches Bitterbier.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam decorates the sparkling golden.
-Pils malts are admirably defined in this one, lending nutty edges to outspoken cereal flavors.
-Hops are mostly herbal and lightly citrusy, perfectly cohesive with the malt signature.
-Pearls of forced carbonation add a certain champenoise feel to the brew at times. I’d love to try this from a wooden cask though…
-The hoppy finish is spicy and bitter, with minute banana esters showing up on the horizon.
-This is extremely clean and close to world-class imho. If it weren’t so expensive compared to others of its ilk though…

Bottle.

Sehr gut! 9/12/12/13/12/12

Bottle, danke Günther. Golden, white lacing foam. Quite hoppy aroma, love it, but then I am a big Saphir fan. Citric flavor, light fresh body, quick finish, hop retronsasal. Very un-subtle Kölsch, pleasant enough though.

Bottled. A yellow beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of flowers and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and straw, leading ot a bitter finish.
