Bottle. Pours clear yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is hay, exotic fruit like lime and mango and straw. The flavor has a clean malty feel with light exotic fruity notes. Light pineapple and mango. I drink lots of this!!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
FWIBF. Really solid Kolsch thats not from Cologne. Aromas are herbal, hoppy, grassy, noble and floral. Flavors are grassy, bready, hoppy, clean and crisp with moderate fruit that I think is more from the hops than from the yeast. Crisp and refreshing with a low body, and sharp carbonation. Really nice to drink.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
355ml fancypants US-size bottle, Maruhn cooler. Jul2013. Label with extensive brewing info and condescending preemptive tasting notes ("Obergäriges Bitterbier", "Kaltgehopft mit Saphirhopfen", "Aromen von....Ananas und Zitrusfrüchten"). Braufactum/Oetker is expanding into the unsaturated and unnecessary German LuxusEdelGenießer-niche with overpriced Belgian/US imports and their own large-scale test tube interpretations of worldwide popular craft beer styles, thus plowing the field for a young market of upscale beers. By the looks of the near-empty cooler, they are making more headway with this teutonically crass strategy every 6months I visit.
This version interpretation of a Kölsch that dare/can not speak its true name is one of the more fascinating results: upfront delicate Saphir hops, pillowy yeast overlap with their "Palor" pale ale, characteristic lean lemonade caramalts of the style subtly coming in late, resulting in a very crisp, dry-hopped, postmodern "inverted" Kölsch, like a nouvelle cuisine version of bluecollar Halver Hahn. Has a strange clinical precision to it and a matching laboratory price tag (€2,49), as if to say that this could be sessioned, but that would be just plain pedestrian of you, you luxury-averse Aldi swiller. 75cl bottles of this range (Progusta etc.) cost considerably more than double than the small ones, as beers in Champagnerflaschen are automatically even more exquisite and "not for everyone".
Fazit: one of Oetker/Braufactum’s typical, yet fascinating bittersweet consumer experiences to be made on an ostentaciously diversifying niche market im Reich der Biermitte.
