COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

650ml bottle, Maruhn 2013. Nice and black with respectable off-white head. Some roasted malts, chocolate, Pumpernickel and rye bread in the nose. Taste delivers on what the boastful label pre-ordains: chocolate, roasted malts, slight caramel, very decent hop presence. Watery palate, reminding the ordinary Schwarztrinker this was originally a quenching lager...Big-buck-big-business fancypants updated version of a Schwarzes.

Aroma: soy sauce, dark malts. Appearance: hazy brown color, poor beige head. Taste: low bitterness, bready, roasted malts, pumpernickel bread, coffee substitute, slightly acid. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Silver Medalist from WBC 2014, and this is a big puzzle for me. How could it happen ? This beer is very poor and presents nothingness.

65cl bottle pours with a clear dark mahogany body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up chocolate malts and then a mix of caramel malts and dark roasted malts and just a bit earthiness too. The taste is straight up rich and yummy dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee that somehow offers a smooth mouth feel. It picks up an additional note of caramel malts but basically remains the same right into the finish. The taste has some great flavor as I’m really enjoying the chocolate and coffee notes. Nice!
