Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours black with some rare red hints and the nice beige layer of scum. Malty roasted aroma, not so strong, maybe some dark chocolate or cacau. The taste malty, more roasted malts with some backing bitterness more likely coming from the use of schwartzmalz rather than hops. The texture is very smooth and the carb low, and I think I would guess this would be a stout in a blind test. I am not overly fond of this beer type, I think it is one of those you should drink in situ to really enjoy, but it is a nice example of the type. Would prefer more bubbles in it, the flatness of it makes it tiresome in the long run.

650 ml bottle. Black in the glass, mighty beige head. Malt and dark fruits on the nose. Starts dark roasted malty, light alcoholic and smooth, fruity hints. Later toffee, with a dry bitterness. Light metallic. Complex longlasting toasted aftertaste. Interesting.

650ml bottle, Maruhn 2013. Nice and black with respectable off-white head. Some roasted malts, chocolate, Pumpernickel and rye bread in the nose. Taste delivers on what the boastful label pre-ordains: chocolate, roasted malts, slight caramel, very decent hop presence. Watery palate, reminding the ordinary Schwarztrinker this was originally a quenching lager...Big-buck-big-business fancypants updated version of a Schwarzes.

Aroma: soy sauce, dark malts. Appearance: hazy brown color, poor beige head. Taste: low bitterness, bready, roasted malts, pumpernickel bread, coffee substitute, slightly acid. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Silver Medalist from WBC 2014, and this is a big puzzle for me. How could it happen ? This beer is very poor and presents nothingness.

65cl bottle pours with a clear dark mahogany body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up chocolate malts and then a mix of caramel malts and dark roasted malts and just a bit earthiness too. The taste is straight up rich and yummy dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee that somehow offers a smooth mouth feel. It picks up an additional note of caramel malts but basically remains the same right into the finish. The taste has some great flavor as I’m really enjoying the chocolate and coffee notes. Nice!

Teppelacing. Aroma av røstet malt. Smaken har antydning av mørk frukt. Blir tørr etter hvert. En innholdsrik schwarzbier. Hyggelig overraskelse.

660 ml bottle. Rated on 18.4.2014. Pours a dark hazy amber colour with a small head. Aroma of roasted malts, cream and grass. Flavour of roasted malts, lactose, yeast, chocolate and mild bitterness. Light bodied and rough carbonation. Gets a bit messy towards the end as the yeastiness takes over.
