COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle looks again really good, edge of the label in mint green this time. Beer in the glass quite dark for a normal German märzenbier. And much more surprising: the aroma is wonderful smoky, roasty malty notes as well. The beer starts not as smoky as exspectedspicy notes are dominating, hints of caramell and sweet chocolate, modest nutty notes. Finish shows again this wonderful smoky side, not too roasted or bacon-like, soft-malty, warming aftertaste, modest sweet. What a great beer. I already love it and think I have to order more of it...

EHouse (102) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 10, 2012
Pours a lovely ruby/copper brown with a light white head. Aroma is lightly malty with a hint of caramel, nail polish remover and fruit (Apricot?). Thinner body than I would like with a pronounced fusel bite to start followed by flashes of prune, caramel, coffee, and a little chocolate. Finish is estery and alcoholic. A 5.5% should not have this much ethyl acetate in it.

Herber, muffig malziger Beginn. Geringe Röstigkeit, im Mittelteil wässrig. Erneut muffiger Abgang, geringe Malzigkeit, unausgewogen. Nicht gut. 9/5/6/5/9/5

Bottle. [thanks Søren]
Pours clear amber with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is sweet, some caramel, lightly toasted, mild grassy. Medium carbonation, nice dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is caramel, toasted, grassy, soft metal. Pleasant malty bitter finish.

Bottle MHD 31.03.2013, which seems a tad generous. Nose is sweet citrus and light malt, alcohol showing. Latent fruitiness. Amber-ruby body with a rocky tan head. Taste is sweet and extremely fruity (leaning hard on the berries), has some cracker and yeast but no sign of spice from the malt or hops, just a big plate of candied fruit. Style remarks aside (it’s a British/Belgian mashup rather than a German), it’s very pleasant and not cloying, with a little bit of caramel on the back of the tongue into the aftertaste, caramel’s role increases with volume. Creamy-smooth medium body, a little flat, but good.

Bottle from Galeria Kaufhof, Köln
Beautiful dark amber color; generous and creamy head. The aroma is mild; there is some caramel, malt, candi sugar, egg pastries. Some caramel flavor, but the mouthfeel is too dry and unsweet for a Märzen; the bitterness is quite high, even too much in the end, and there is a light presence of apples (some problem with the fermentation or lagering). Boring.

Sampler from the stand at Galeria Kaufhof. Caramel colour with a thin off white head. Aroma is malt and caramel. Flavour tastes more like an ale than a Marzen, dry malt leaving a dry palate.

Bottle, danke vielmal Günther! Deep red, big amber creamy head. Roasted sugar, honey and crisp grassy hop aroma. Herbal roast character, nutty, honeyish, could use a few hop aromatics. A tad light on the body - could be chewier. Not a bad beer by any means but I had better Märzen from rattier, cheaper bottles.
