Hopfen: Herkules Malz: Weizen-, Wiener, Rauch-, Karamellmalz Classic smoked beers tend to have an extremely dominant smoked taste, which is often regarded as overpowering. With Roog, a smoked unfiltered wheat beer, the smoky note has been toned down while preserving the distinctive character of this kind of beer. The threeway combination of smoked beer, wheat beer and special malt aromas comes together in perfect harmony.

[on tap] Pours murky brown with little head. Nice wheat aroma with a slight smokiness. Flavor is simple. Tart wheat beer with pleasant touch of smoke. Decent body and clean finish. Good beer.

Hazy dark brown pour, big fluffy tan head. Nose is mildly smokey, soft wheaty sweetness, caramel. Flavor is wheaty, caramel, near the finish the smoke kicks in, mildly and bacony. Finish is mildly smokey, malts, caramel notes. Oily mouthfeel. Fairly smooth drinkin’, this is the mildest smoked beer I’ve had.

First ever smoked wheat beer. Very dark, almost black, with a creamy head that lingers for the duration. Not at all fruity for a weizen, no hint of cloves or banana. Instead the beer veers torwards chocolate and caramel, with a pleasant mix of roasted malt. Did not notice much of a smoked flavor at all until the last few sips. Enjoy this on its own, without food, which can easily overwhelm the subtle delectations of this brew. A creative and interesting weizen.

660ml bottle. Pours out scarily murky. Despite the fact that bottle was stored as it should, upright, in the fridge for a week. As I examine bottle closer it seems that at some point this bottle was stored upright down. So all the yeast is stuck around the neck. Whoever did this, fukc ’em up the arse, with mammoth size dick ’til they die! Looking in the bottle there is about 1cm crap left in the bottom?! What the fck?
Small brown head forms and stays. Raw plastic, some malts, grains, plums and wood in aroma. Taste is yeasty, woody, grainy, leather and smokey. Yeasty, metallic and smokey in aftertaste. I re-closed the bottle and put it back in the fridge. Will try it again some other day. This is too shit at the moment.

Big 660 ml bottle, BB 26.11.16. Murky brown body, tall head. Aroma is disappointingly unsmoky for a "Smoked" beer. Just some wheat malt and yeast. Taste has lightly toasted and soft, creamy wheat malt. Since the label mentions it, I think I can get some almonds too. But the label also promises cloves which are not detected by me. Well, it’s a quite good Dunkelweizen but I wouldn’t call this a spiced and smoked beer at all.

Bottle (from Stockmann, Tallinn). Pours brown with light brownish head. The head stays. Aroma is smoke, bacon, wheat, banana, potatoes. Flavor is sweet, caramel, malt, some smoke, fruits, banana, touch of acidity. Alcohol is well covered. Finish is dry and sweet. Overall: very nice brew.

peponi (1047) - Mainz, GERMANY - NOV 28, 2015
Aroma: roasted malts, empty. Appearance: hazy amber color and nice white head. Taste: no smoked notes (maybe some whisky notes, but it is maybe an autosuggestion), some roasted notes, no cloves and banana, empty, semi-dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation. Overall: Empty and really close to the water. Disaster.

Smager næsten ikke af røg. Kunne ikke smage det hvis jeg ikke vidste det. En smule syrlig.

Light smoke and some wheat malt. Pours brown without much head. Light sweet finish. More like a dunkelweizen.
