4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bierkoning (8953) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - JUL 26, 2009
Growler @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. Almost black and opague. Grapes, cherry and roast in the vinous aroma and flavor. Some tartness, citrus. Roast and oak in the finish. Much more vinous as the other two Imperial Stout versions and therefore my favorite.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Grovlam (4137) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 24, 2009
Draught. [Beer festival 2009] This was by far the best version in my opinion. As with the Bourbon barreled version, the most noticeable difference from the steel tank version was the diminishing notes of smoke. It seems like the wood barrels had soaked up some of the smoky notes and “replaced” it with the notes of (in this case) Port Wine aroma and flavor. This added to the overall complexity of the beer. Average beige head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma was quite complex with notes of sweet Port, wood, mild smoky notes, roasted malt, liquorish, dark chocolate, mild coffee, vinous and raisin, date notes in there as well. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and mild alcoholic and thick texture. Heavy sweet and bitter flavor in balance. Lingering smoked salami and roasted malty finish. By far the better René!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 thewolf (9882) - Kolding, DENMARK - MAY 20, 2009
Tap @ Ølfestival, Valby, 2009.
Pours completely black with a great, small, creamy, beige head. Aroma has good oak, sherry, port, roasted malts, some smoke and caramel. Lightish mouthfeel, very dry and creamy. Super flavour. Light pear/apple notes creep in with the roasted malts, impressive smoke note, dark chocolate and fine bitterness. I really dig that fruity note that the Sherry cask has brought to it.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 yngwie (10760) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUN 17, 2009
On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival. It pours a black body, topped by a minimal-sized brown head. Vinous aroma with alcohol, roasted malts, coffee and sweetness. Smooth, full-bodied and warming in the mouth, giving flavors of roasted malts, coffee, some vanilla, bitterness, sweetness and a tiny smoked touch. At least the smoke is much less evident than in the Conditioned and Bourbon editions. Bitter finish, both hop-bitter and coffee-bitter. A true sipper, just lovely. (090515)
