COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Weizenbier is an outsider (or “Pimock”) in Cologne, as any Bavarian would be. But there is a Rhineland slant to this wheat beer-a Kölsch yeast replaces the traditional weizen one, and an unusually heavy dose of hops is added, resulting in a drier Weisse, with none of the typical banana and clove notes typical of a Bavarian wheat beer.

Bottle shared at Exira Beer Summit 2012. Thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours a hazy orange color with white head. Malty, wheat, yeasty aromas. Crisp wheat flavoring. Not your prototypical german hefeweizen flavor. Kind of bland.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a strong bubbly carbonation golden orange brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was wheat. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The nice flavor contained notes of mild dough wheat and mild hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

Cloudy deep golden with a thick ivory foamy head. Earthy nose with some slightly wheaty and herbal tones, with a tinge of aged melon. Smooth and wheaty flavor tempered by some melon and light orange zest, nice orange fleshy bitterness, a full palate but with a quiet faux wheaty finish. Gentle and bready but also slightly orangish.

Head is dense, white and creamy, it lasts and leaves some lacing. Body is very hazy, of a reddish orange color, medium to light carbonation. Aroma is fruty and a bit smoky, with fresh hops. Tastes of hop bitterness and a slight fruitness. Not bad but I miss the traditional weiss characters of banana and sweetness.

Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is fruity-orangy, yeasty. No bananas. Taste is again oranges and spicy yeasts. Surprisingly crisp mouthfeel. Not bad, but not a Hefeweizen...

500 ml bottle into weizen glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light banana/clove/pepper, wheat, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/floral hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light banana/clove/pepper, wheat, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness and wheat tangon the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange zest, pear, apple, light banana/clove/pepper, wheat, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/floral hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good and unique hefeweizen style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of citrus/floral hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. Even with the use of Kolsch yeast, you still a nice amount of flavor complexity and balance; with subtle banana/clove notes due to the wheat malts. A very enjoyable offering.

500 ml bottle labeled Freigeist Pimock poured a hazy amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of wheat, yeast and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of wheat, yeast and light caramel with a smooth finish.

From the 500 ml. bottle. Orange-yellow pour with modest cream colored head. It fades some. Toasted bread and malts on the nose along with grassy hops. Pretty typical. Light body. Good sweetness in the taste to start and then a vibrant grassy hop finish. It is what you think it will be.

500ml bottle - pours a turbid orange - this certainly takes some getting used to - as the label alludes to, this is not a typical Hefe - more like a German version of a hoppy wheat beer - as usually with this brewer, the texture is quite nice - flavor is mildly sweet orange up front, followed by a light acidity and verybmild banana - moderately bitter hoppiness late, and a touch of pepper in the finish - really not much like a Hefe, but it’s an enjoyable enough beer.
