COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Weizenbier is an outsider (or “Pimock”) in Cologne, as any Bavarian would be. But there is a Rhineland slant to this wheat beer-a Kölsch yeast replaces the traditional weizen one, and an unusually heavy dose of hops is added, resulting in a drier Weisse, with none of the typical banana and clove notes typical of a Bavarian wheat beer.

Bottle shared at Exira Beer Summit 2012. Thanks to adnielsen for sharing. Pours a hazy orange color with white head. Malty, wheat, yeasty aromas. Crisp wheat flavoring. Not your prototypical german hefeweizen flavor. Kind of bland.

Bottle: Amber orange in color with small white head that dissipated quickly. A light malty and citrus aroma is followed by sweet slightly hoppy taste.

Alles ok.

On tap at the brewpub in Cologne. The beer has got a hazy orange-amber colour with a steady head and medium to smooth body. Aroma of wheat and oranges with some yeasty touch. Taste of yeast, wheat, bread, oranges, fruit salad and flowers. Mild yeasty-sweet flowerish finish. Enjoyed it.

Pours a dark, cloudy amber with a white head. The aroma is faint, light malt and wheat, with a flavor that is dry malt up front followed by a crisp finish and slightly sweet aftertaste over a light-medium body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: (as Freigeist Pimock) Cloudy, orange, with a huge beige head. Banana, old wheat, semi-oxidized aroma. Taste is a bit of stale bread, banana, wheat. Slightly sweet....overall, rather dull and unappealing.

500ml bottle, from Kahn’s Keystone, off the top part of a shelf. Labeled Freigeist Pimock Rhineland Weizen. Cloudy darker orange color. Bigger kind of khaki head. Good ridges of lace. Musty, kind of metallic nose. Some dark fruit, mild paper and oxidization, metallic. Probably an old bottle, who knows how long it’s been sitting on that shelf for. Not much bavarian hefe flavor, just kind of mild and musty. Some wheat, mild spice, very mild hefe banana type flavors, more just must, mild paper, and some metallic. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter. Medium body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation, with a good full feel. Aside from the lacking flavor, everything else about this is pretty nice. Probably a victim of it’s environment, a common problem with these imports that could be easily alleviated if these breweries would just print a bottling date. Of course, the importer and distributor would not like that...
