3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle under Freigeist Ottekolong. (Redirected here, although I don’t think its the same beer). Smells of sourdough bread and a very slight citrus note. Pours a slightly hazy orange straw color with a thin head the disappears leaving a film of bubbles. The taste is clean and crisp with a medium to light body and the smallest hint of nuttiness. An approachable beer great for sunny warm days.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Monks in Philly. Cloudy yellow straw pour. Fizzy white head. Runny lace. Lemon wheat notes off the top. Big yeasty cereal flavors rounded with some Blonde Ale elements. Meyer lemon zest. Cheerios. Juicy fruit. Pumped up citrus wheat flavors. Full mouthfeel for a Kolsch. Probably the best of the style I have had.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at The Kernel, London - thanks to Paul. Pours mostly clear yellow with a fine, frothy white head. Some dry, doughy malts in the nose, hints of lemon. Light sweet flavor, moderate bitter straw, more dry biscuits. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Pale, bready biscuits to finish, mild straw bitterness. Pretty nice.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at Kernel. It pours hazy pale yellow with a medium white head. The nose is straw, grainy, touch of spice, dough and light sulphur (probably because its not too fresh). The taste is pithy lemon, hay, dough, light spice and decent bitterness with a dry finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. A pretty drinkable brew, best suited for a summer day.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
When in Cologne, there are two Kölsch that you have to try. This one, and any of the interchangeable others. This is one of the few Kölsch examples that can really be called "wiess" - local dialect for the old way of brewing, unfiltered and unpasteurized.
This beer is an opaque golden yellow, like a child’s coloring book would depict beer. Served in a 0.2L kölsh glass for freshness and temperature. Traditional bready aroma and flavor are dominant, and we don’t seem to lose the clarity of flavor that is the trademark of the style. This is broader on the palate than most kölsch, with a slightly sweeter taste and less of a bittering after-kick. The metallic flavors of other kölsch are nowhere to be found here. Instead this beer is remarkably smooth.
After drinking "normal" kölsch, this is aa refreshing change that helps you understand how the style became so popular!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Bine and Vine: Created a thick fluffy white pillow of foam head which eventually retreated while a golden liquid that showed a white tint similar to witbier. Aroma is subtle with mild notes of quality malts that gives of a smell of grains and hay. The drink is isn’t as boring as most other kolsch styles are and actually has a bolder flavor of the grain and tastes of sweet corn cereals. Okay stuff but it might have tasted better on a really warm day.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Mild bready aroma, pours a hazy light straw with just a thin white head. Light crisp flavor, with a very light body. Easy drinking and not much going on, missing the light fruit notes of most Kolschs that I’ve had. This is a nice easy drinking beer, there’s just not much going on.
