Pours dark with a small tan coloured head. Smooth crisp flavour. Easy to enjoy and one everyone should try

Dark brown, has a huge head. Aroma has roast, toast, almost some smokiness. Very roasty palate...almost peat-like smoke. Really cool stuff, very dry and almost harsh.

The smell is quite smokey. Taste is also smokey, like bacon, molasses, and licorice, with a great bitterness at the end.

Trotzdem ganz lecker! Test vom 6.10.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,10,11,10,12,10 - 10,45

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Braustelle. Dark brown with a big tanned head. Nose is huge campfire, lots of BBQ smoke, light roast, touch meaty smoke, light herbal & faint coffee. Taste is sweet malts, upfront followed by bitter herbs, lots of kindled wood, meaty smoke, BBQ, campfire, touch herbs, plenty of wood, faint herbs. Thick malty body, great smoked brew. Is there any consistency to this beer? Almost every review seems to talk about a different brew with probably quite a few of them being infected. Mine was a wonderful smoked beer.

33cl bottle from source, thuis. Pours a gorgeous black-brown with rich off-white sticky pillow of a head. Near-acidic wood barrel astringency in nose and then later in the finish. A complex plethora of austere roast & burnt and bitter hop notes, spanning from charred espresso beans to cured spices, soy, seaweed & dried berries (juniper). Creamy head, along with incipient buttery/yoghurt off flavours provide ?unplanned solace, making this an espresso macchiato with indistinct flavour shot. ABV well incorporated, this could be a barrel-aged ImpStout by modest German Craft 2.0 standards, or an ImpSchwarz, continentally complementing the Black IPA category. All in all another bold & bitter Braustelle brew that has less than nothing in common with a brown ale, nor warrants the low ratings it has received on account of a few in-traded infected bottles dating back to its 2007 launching phase.

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass dark, almost black, nice head. Starts intense malty, fine roasty, hints of earth and coffee, notes of liquorice. Finish drier, but still well balanced and quite drinkable. Nice!

Bottle 0.33l from P&M Bonn. Pours almost black with a large beige head. Medium to low carbonation. Aroma is sour, malt, roasted coffee. Taste is roasted coffee, dried fruit, prunes, slightly sour. Alcohol is not present. Aftertaste is quite bitter. Good beer but no way a brown ale imho.
