3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl bottle from source, thuis. Pours a gorgeous black-brown with rich off-white sticky pillow of a head. Near-acidic wood barrel astringency in nose and then later in the finish. A complex plethora of austere roast & burnt and bitter hop notes, spanning from charred espresso beans to cured spices, soy, seaweed & dried berries (juniper). Creamy head, along with incipient buttery/yoghurt off flavours provide ?unplanned solace, making this an espresso macchiato with indistinct flavour shot. ABV well incorporated, this could be a barrel-aged ImpStout by modest German Craft 2.0 standards, or an ImpSchwarz, continentally complementing the Black IPA category. All in all another bold & bitter Braustelle brew that has less than nothing in common with a brown ale, nor warrants the low ratings it has received on account of a few in-traded infected bottles dating back to its 2007 launching phase.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass dark, almost black, nice head. Starts intense malty, fine roasty, hints of earth and coffee, notes of liquorice. Finish drier, but still well balanced and quite drinkable. Nice!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, near black with a huge beige head - a bit too gassy. Piney hops and a touch of treacle on the nose. More of the same on the palate plus salty drying, burnt caramel and liquorice notes. Dry salt-treacle burnt cocoa & caramel finish. Verrry interesting....
