Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, bread, and malt. The flavor is sweet notes of caramel, bread, and malt, as well as light notes of metal, leading to a dry lightly metallic finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottle at Cock & Bull Pub. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate roasted malt and bread aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid brew.

bottle from case and keg. Very dark brown with a tan head. Sugary sweet on the nose with lots of malt. Flavor is malty and a hint of cheap coffee. Drinkable I guess. But nothing amazing.

11.2 bottle, got it in a sampler with 5 other brews. Pours a dark brown with hints of copper on the edges with a nice off-white head that leaves good lacing and a froth atop the beer. The smell is right on for the style with notes of caramel, slight chocolate, pils malt and a pinch of hops. The taste is richer and bolder than most schwartzbiers which isn’t necessarily a good thing, but it is decent here. It has a large smokiness to it along with some bittersweet chocolate. There’s not much hops in the flavor. The mouthfeel is watery which doesn’t help this flavor. The high drinkability that is usually present in this style is altered a bit by the mouthfeel. I’ll go with Koestritzer over this anytime but this is cheaper. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-28-2010 21:50:04
