3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mcberko (4056) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 3, 2012
On tap at Breakside, pours black with a fairly large brown head. Aroma of pumpkin spices, mild subdued coconut and light roasted qualities. Flavour of pumpkin spices, roasted malt, chocolate, and some coconut flakes further back that become more and more pronounced the more you drink. Full-bodied, with a fantastic balance of all the elements. I took a chance with this beer, thinking it could be a massive failure or a pleasant surprise – gladly, it was the latter.

On tap at the brewpub in Portland, OR. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate with a nice coconut and pumpkin note. Some roasts and a few spice hints as well as touches of vanilla. Flavor is similar. Chocolate with some pumpkin and coconut as well as a medium-light roast and a few spice notes. Finishes mostly dry and chocolatey with a nice coconut, vanilla, light spicing, and pleasant roast. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid beer. Well balanced with a nice chocolate backing, roast, coconut, pumpkin, and vanilla. Enjoyable.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 boFNjackson (3580) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Tap @ Breakside... Poured jet black with a nice forming, light tan head. Nose had lots or roasted pumpkin and nutmeg spice with some coconut. The coconut came through only in the finish, and you had to search for it. However, I think if this beer lacked coconut it would’ve tasted totally different. I think the coconut added body and sweetness to county the massive amount of nutmeg spice and pumpkin pie notes this beer had going for it. Along with a good amount a roast, this was a nice, complex sipper.

On draught at Breakside 11/21/2012. Creamy and dark, with a yummy coconut aroma. Wanted a little more pumpkin flavor, but overall really good.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 troopie (1987) - Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon, USA - NOV 23, 2012
Draught. Body is somewhat confused, which is why I gave it a low palate score. Aroma is cocoanut, flavour is pumpkin, with cocoanut coming on as the beer warmed. I admit I ordered it because cocoanut and pumpkin are not common flavours in beers.
