3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 3fourths (6399) - Boulder, USA - APR 18, 2011
UPDATED: APR 21, 2011 clear copper/amber body. crystal malt notes (soggy grains, caramel/toffee, bread crust) with limp, wet hop aromatics in the nose. low acid and relatively low bitterness for the style; this flabbiness along with the rounded, chewy and syrupy body leave me frustrated once again with oregon-made IPA. i’d like to point out that india pale ale includes the word ’pale’ ಠ_ಠ - that all said, i’m really excited to announce this rating as Oregon Beer Rating #666. yeehaw.

Tap @ Breakside... Poured amber with a thick, frothy, eggy head that had nice retention. The nose was solid. Big hop and citrus punch. Flavor profile was malty and husky. Bready, cracker malt, some hop bitterness, and a hint of chemical soap. Earthy, pepper spice, citrus, and more hop bitterness in the finish.

Powerful but not over vegetal. Good mixture of pine and citrus. Nice and sparkly too. One of the better IPAs of late for me. Another strong effort from Breakside.

On tap at PDX Beer Week with Carla. Pours deep orange with off-white foam. Smells very floral and possibly a little skunky. Tastes initially very sweet of floral hops but ends very bitter of something akin to asparagus.

Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice thick IPA hops aroma. Big hops flavor mixed with a good malt build. Banana and grapefruit flavors this was a terrific beer. Strong hops flavors and aromas this was exquisite
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hophazard (193) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Generous resinous pine hop aroma. Very clear golden color with rocky white head. Strong pitchy hop flavor rockets out of the glass. Malt is present in mouthfeel but the hops shine. Clean bitterness. Medium light mouthfeel with appropriate carbonation. A showcase of hops. Very enjoyable.
