Brewed in collaboration with Paul Kasten of legendary Portland restaurant Wildwood, this is a traditional English-style old ale brewed with molasses and aged on oak spirals. A delicious autumn beer that is hefty and smooth. The first in a yearlong series of collaborations with some of Portlandís top chefs.

Bottle thanks to a generous trade. Pours a near clear dark brown with a yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains with notes of molasses with backing oak notes. Flavor is sweet with sweet grains, light fruit, molasses and a bit of a metallic note.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a cloudy dirty dark mahogany / brown with a small white head. Aroma brings out notes of wood, dark fruits and toffee. Flavour is similar, bringing out dark fruits, prominent woody notes and caramel. Rather aggressive booze as well, but itís not detracting. Not the most elegant barrel aged beer, but this is very nice.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Cloudy dark amber color. The aroma reminds me of stale beer in the tray, not exciting, but also some malt. But it has a good body, some caramel flavor, light residual sweetness, a bit nutty, a bit woody, a bit sour; the alcohol feeling is pleasant.
It lacks a bit of malt depth, but itís an enjoyable sipper.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. There is noticeable alcohol in the aroma. Notes of coconut, wood, malty, molasses. This is a big, boozy, warming beer. Tasty.

750ml bottle. Thanks to Derek for sharing... Pours a deeper mahogony toffee black hue and topped with a creamy light beige head... Aroma. phenolic overtones with semi-tart dark fruits followed up by a semi-spiced caramel malt backbone probably from the barrel. Some vanilla tannins thrown in for good measure. odd phenolic character that adds a mild infected note ... Flavors are somewhat better but still tainted with semi-tart and metallic dark fruit. Earthy bitterness throughout with the metallic note existing through. Lighter bodied and fluffy.

Tap @ Breakside... Poured deep, ruby-red with a beige head. Nose contained oak and dark fruits. Thick palate, a but boozy with smoke, oak, charred wood, cherries, prunes, and big malt sweetness that countered the intense bitterness.

Called Old Woody by the restaurant. Can we get this changed to that. Barrel aged and with the character of the barrel in the aroma. Full bodied with a minor alcohol note. Malty note.
