We always wanted to make a year-round German-style Pilsner. Both because it tastes great and it’s a favorite of ours. We import bagged German Pilsner malt and manually add 3,300 pounds to each batch because we believe that’s what it takes to make a great German pilsner. We source all Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, which we prize for their mix of floral and “Noble” notes. Then we wait. This beer is unfiltered, so we rely on natural lagering techniques (i.e. long times and cold temperatures) to get this beer as bright as sunshine.

On tap @ Breakside. Clear golden pour with white foam. A little sweeter than I’d really care for. Slight citrus and floral hop notes, but really an odd note of white grape, some apple, and bready malts. Pretty sweet tasting and not anywhere near as much hop character as I would have hoped for. Kind of a let down.

Good appearance with lots of lace and a clear, bright gold color. Taste had an odd, out of place fruitiness at first which gave way to more traditional pilsner characteristics. Good body and finish.

Bomber pours a clear golden/yellow with a large white head. Grainy almost yougurt like aroma, sweet malt, with light grassy hops. Taste of sweet pils malt, bready yeast, lightly fruity, grassy bitter hops hitting on the finish. Nice!

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is wheat grass and herbs. Thin mouth, herbs, grass, mineral, decent.

Bottle thanks to GCurlow. Love a good pils. Poured slightly hazy, golden with a fizzy white head. Aroma was grainy, bready malt with some grassy, floral hops. Touch of citrus. Flavors were grainy with some grass and cereal malts. Nice crisp finish, slight bitterness. Good pils.

[2/26/15] Draught at Breakside Brewery in Portland. Golden color. Aroma of DMS and a hoppy hint. Flavor has some graininess, a bit of DMS and a bitterish grassy finish. Rather light-bodied.

Bomber from Beer Authority

Light gold pour with a white head into my outward-curving pilsner glass. Bready nose with a bit of grass. Flavor is richer than expected with plenty of lemon peel and a substantial Hallertau hop kick. More bread. Fairly prickly. A bit heavier than expected but darn tasty. A big pils but fairly a fairly honest one. I’d repeat this happily.

Bottle - Slight cloudy hay color. It looks like hay and also smells a little like hay and grain. Taste was like a typical pilsner with move of a sweet flavor.
