We always wanted to make a year-round German-style Pilsner. Both because it tastes great and it’s a favorite of ours. We import bagged German Pilsner malt and manually add 3,300 pounds to each batch because we believe that’s what it takes to make a great German pilsner. We source all Hallertau Hersbrucker hops, which we prize for their mix of floral and “Noble” notes. Then we wait. This beer is unfiltered, so we rely on natural lagering techniques (i.e. long times and cold temperatures) to get this beer as bright as sunshine.

Draught into a growler. Pours a hazy golden color with a rather thick white head on there. Nose is filled with a lot of corn and little else for me. Taste has quite a bit of corn, and a bit of skunk, almost like this is really old. Not a great beer.

Draft pour listed as liquid sunshine at special brews. Pours a light yellow with a faint malt aroma. Very mild flavor. A little corn there. A little sweet. Decent summer beer here.

I shared with with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. It poured clear gold with a big bubbled head and light lacing. Nose is grassy floral hops. Very smooth mouthfeel and medium body. Flavor is is light fruit and some bitterness that carries over in to the finish. Very refreshing.

Bomber from Hayduke that we shared over facebook chat. This beer pours very clear and honey gold. No carbonation is seen rising. A white head is almost one finger. I had this immediately after a long bicycle ride on a hot day and found it very refreshing. It brings honey and grain with a bit of corn. Some pepper is gentle. Just a bit of grassy hops is pleasant. A Pilsner is just what I needed and this is a very nice one.

Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is clear light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers). Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A clean, serviceable north German rendition, a la Bitburger....very light and delicate. It falls a bit short on character and charm, but it has no flaws and the nose is attractive.

Poured from bottle to glass. Clear straw hue with delicate white head that dissipated to a ring. Aroma is grassy, wildflower honey, cereal, floral, slight peppery, slight sulphur. Mouthfeel is great with a light body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry throughout with a nice light bitterness in the following and a clean finish. Overall this is a decent pilsner.

Draft at indigo. Pours a clear pale gold with a loose white head and plenty of lace. Nice grassy nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Biv crackery finish. Pretty dialed for the style. Not bad.

Draft at churchkey. Pours a clear medium gold with a loose white head. Mild grassy crackery nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Toasty, crackery mid palate with a light resiny finish. Hoppier and heavier than expected, but in a pleasant way.

Draught at Hales Ales Brewery and Pub, Seattle
as Breakside Liquid Sunshine Pilsner, 5.3% ABV

Hazy pale blond color with creamy head. Aroma of straws. Dry mouthfeel; some flavor of corn; ordinary bitterness, a bit lemony, with a hint of grass, but without a clear Hallertau hops evidence.
Not what promised.

It’s just okay. I like the flavor, but it’s a little too much for my preference.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Nose brings out grassy hops, grains, and biscuity malt. Flavour is similar, with really nice grassy hops, biscuity malt and grains. Very grassy, fairly hoppy and dry, with very high drinkability. Great stuff.
