COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How do you end a year in which you’ve made 100 different beers? a hoppy behemoth that used over 7 pounds of hops per barrel of beer, got two separate dry hop additions, and clocks in at over 11% alcohol. you need to have a deeply masochistic streak to desire this much hoppiness in your beer. it is a bruising, tongue-scraping, agressive beer with more punch than anything we’ve ever made.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Cloudy amber color with creamy head, and a bright light. Nice aroma of malt, caramel, hop, manure, fruits, mango. Full bodied, round mouthfeel; good malt and caramel flavor, with a touch of toffee, sweet but not cloying; very strong hopping, but it well blends into this beer, with loads of piney resins and a strong fruity component. Long final.
Fresh. Among Double IPAs it’s excellent.

On tap at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A darker reddish amber beer, with a moderate whitish head. Citrus hop nose. Big crisp citrus hops assault the tongue, but amazingly and propitiously balanced with robust warming malts. Yaasss!!!

Big aroma and flavor. This monster was awesome. Lots fo hops so much so I had to try it again. Opps that was bad the hops mask the huge 11% ABV that is the killer the beer is so flawless the ABv is covered up. I felt like a little school girl I cant taste the alcohol. Famous last words before you meet the chicken from last night as you sleep on the floor of the hotel bathroom.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2014 Tap at Chuck’s.

To misquote the Clash, I’m so bored of the I.I.P.A. but hey, Chris offered this one up and who am I to refuse? Fairly light pour, sticky texture. Huge spicy nose, pine and herb garden, peppery, thick, and sweet, alcohol not as in-your-face as you’d expect from an 11% IIPA. Well enough done, but the 2 oz I drank was plenty.

Draft at Chucks 85th. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold with a dense and creamy white head that sticks around for a while, leaving decent strings of lace. Beautiful big spicy hop nose, showing grapefruit rind, ginger, blood orange, and tangerine. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Flavors are nowhere near as diverse or dimensional as the aromatics, but that’s alright--nice fruity hop notes with light spice, plenty of moderately toasted caramel. No trace of ethanol anywhere, which is impressive for the abv. Nice long finish.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2014 Tap at Chuck’s. Aroma is super hoppy without putting off high alchy flavors. Good hops, some ice tea, some greens, some bitterness coming out. Good stuff for a high octane hoppy beer. Flavor is very similar. Well done for a big hoppy beer but its not my thang. 2 oz shared by Chris was plenty.

Clear copper/amber with a small white head, light lacing. Aroma of pine, sweet malts and caramel. Flavors of pine resin, caramel with a sticky sweet finish
Nice, similar to a hoppy BW.

Glass at the brewery. Pours a bright copper color with a small white head. The aroma is intense, fruity, big sweet sugary malts, light heat. The flavor is more brown sugar, big sweet malts, intense fruity hops, medium bitterness, resin, hot, green at times, big balanced malty base. Quite like a barley wine. Very good. This will get solid ratings if people try it.

A growlette from Lardo c/o owner Rick G (many thanks Rick!). Colour...slightly hazy amber-gold with a massively thick off white head. Nose...stunningly, stingingly turgid hop profile with mounds of tropical fruits and ponderosa resin! Palate...woof! My hop dogs are barkin’ today!! I just been bitch slapped by hops!!! And yet, suddenly its all balanced quite nicely. Go figure! There’s gobs of pineapple and mango with kiwi skin and sugar pine cone "sugar", too. The 11% is fairly well hidden, until it reaches the gullet, then the warming hits. Man, this would be a dandy sipper on a chilly winters eve. Rover? Fetch my slippers! I’m having a snifter of Safe Word by the fire! Ahhhhh.....

On draught at Breakside. Deep clear amber golden color, with bubbles rising. Aroma of passionfruit, mango, and pineapple. Taste is pineapple syrup, caramel, pine resin, and balanced bitterness. Intense hoppy and boozy finish, but it’s balanced enough to be really pleasing.
