A dessert stout brewed with lactose caramel and fleur de sel, inspired by our friends Tyler & Kim Malek at Salt & Straw. Tyler has been working on perfecting a lactose caramel syrup that mimics the flavor in his sea salt and caramel ice cream. After a few test blends, we’re worried that this might be the most addictive dessert beer ever made.

22oz bottle pours a dark brown with a tan head. Sweet caramel, light chocolate roast, cocoa powder, and sugar for aroma. Taste is pleasant, smooth creamy body with a rich caramel finish. Drinks like a milk stout, I would have liked a little more salt but this was enjoyable.

Bomber via Ezo Beer served in a stout glass and paired with a salted caramel macaron. It poured inky black with a big thick fluffy head of tan foam. The aroma is a little roasty, chocolate and caramel with some seasalt. Med-full bodied with a velvety mouthfeel. The taste is dark bitter chocolate, roasty, a bit of caramel while the salt comes through in the finish that makes your mouth water for more. With the macaron you get more fruity flavors and caramel accented. Good.

Bomber from Made in Oregon. Pours dark brown with a beige/tan head. Aroma of actual "Kraft" caramel candy. Med minus body. Flavor is very, very "Kraft" caramel with some supporting dark chocolate? malt and quite noticeable salt. Interesting. Somehow there seems to be a sourish aspect in the finish. Goes great with Cowgirl Red Hawk cheese.

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a transient tan head and a strong caramel aroma. There is a sourish, but sweet caramel malt flavor with a hint of chocolate and a slightly sour, yet sweet finish.

Bottle at Beer Cellar. As expected salted caramel and roasted malt dominate with a light buttery edge and notes of vanilla, gentle sweet finish. Nicely executed, a pleasant dessert drink.

On tap @ Breakside. Black colored beer with a tan head. Pretty ashy and burnt smelling. A lot of roasted malt, roasted nuts, and some caramel. A pretty generic smelling stout... Has some more sweet caramel and vanilla flavor components, but still pretty roasty and ashy. Kind of acidic and thin. Pretty bitter as well, and I don’t really get the salt. Wasn’t anywhere near as big a fan of this as others.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big cocoa, roast, slight caramel, toffee notes into a slight salty notes, hints of slight maple. Taste was a mix of dark fruit, toffee, caramel into some salt, spice, slight caramelized sugar, chocolate, finishing slightly sweet.

Tap at Hop Haven. Nice sweetness, caramel and salt, toasty. Good, cola fizzy. First of many ratings from our Portland trip with not many notes.
