A dessert stout brewed with lactose caramel and fleur de sel, inspired by our friends Tyler & Kim Malek at Salt & Straw. Tyler has been working on perfecting a lactose caramel syrup that mimics the flavor in his sea salt and caramel ice cream. After a few test blends, we’re worried that this might be the most addictive dessert beer ever made.

22oz bottle pours a dark brown with a tan head. Sweet caramel, light chocolate roast, cocoa powder, and sugar for aroma. Taste is pleasant, smooth creamy body with a rich caramel finish. Drinks like a milk stout, I would have liked a little more salt but this was enjoyable.

Thanks to buckeye boy for this. Poured jet black with a small beige head that disappeared instantly. Aroma is predominately roasty grains with the flavor being much the same with the salty finish that I enjoyed. Would’ve enjoyed it more with a more full body.

[2/26/15] Draught at Breakside Brewery in Portland. Black with a tan head. Aroma has some roast, caramel, licorice and a light vegetal note. Sweetish roasty flavor with chocolate, caramel, some fruitiness, salty licorice, a bit of alcohol and a dry finish. Medium-bodied.

Bottle picked up at the Co-op a few days ago. Dark brown color, topped with a thick finger of creamy brown head. Light lacing quickly dissolves. Once it warms a bit, the nose really fits the brewer’s description; roasty, caramel, and sea salt. Really quite nice. In the taste I’m picking up mostly roast and light chocolate and caramel notes. A faint bit of the sea salt. I remember being really impressed by the super-sweet dessert beers Southern Tier introduced a few years back and I’d rather have this for sure. It would probably pair great with vanilla ice cream.

Very smooth and silky texture. Medium sweetness, not really bitter. Very pleased with this beer.

Pours a deep cola color with roasted malt and caramel aroma. Taste is caramel, sea salt, and maple syrup. Slight bitterness after the swallow that lingers on the palate. A film of cola syrup coats the tongue, a delicious beer that I would drink anytime its availlable.

DRAFT at their Milwaukie brewpub....pours black with thick head. Dessert in a glass....sweet with interesting salt edge. Lots of flavors going on here...but was talking with an old friend too much to take good notes...will have to come back!

This beer is mildly carbonated. It has a slight sweetness to the aroma. Okies back with minimal tan head. Sweet smooth and creamy.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, creamy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, roasted grain, caramel), with a light note of vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. For a sweet stout, it’s drinkable, but ultimately it just isn’t that notable. And it looks very nice (creamy lasting head), but the aroma is mild and plain. The mouthfeel is on the edge of being nice, but it’s a bit too light and watery for this type of beer (thankfully not syrupy though).
