A smokey amber ale designed in collaboration with Chef John Gorham of Toro Bravo, this beer is intended to pair with his restaurant’s spicy, rich, and layered tapas menu. For additional resonance between the beer and John’s food, we used a touch of Espelette pepper in the brew kettle.

On draught at Breakside 2/16 for Zwickelmania 2013. Red amber in color. Full-bodied taste with a smokey, peppery spice to it. Surprisingly easy-drinking.

On tap at Breakside. Pours a clear reddish color with a medium white head. Lots of lacing. The flavor is dominated by traditional amber ale notes of citrus, big caramel, but the light smoky pepper is there in the background. Solid brew. Easy to drink.

Draft at the source courtesy of Douglas88, thanks! Cloudy amber color. Aroma of peppery. Aramel. Taste is lightly toasted caramel.

....Suprisingly easy drinking... I’d downed a pint of their newest ale first and by the time I grasped the bull by the horns I found it hard to discern the heat... The pepper was understated, much to my liking. Were it not for the fabulous variety at Breakside, I might find this more to my liking....

UPDATED: APR 12, 2012 Tap @ Tasty N Sons... Poured deep reddish color with a thin, off white head. Aroma was faint with some malt characters. Nice malt flavor, bread-like, and not overly sweet. Low bitterness which accentuated with smoke character here. Smoke wasn’t over bearing though, yet a nice hint of peat too. Clean, earthy, herbal. Paired well with food as a great palate cleanser while not over powering the taste buds.
