COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smokey amber ale designed in collaboration with Chef John Gorham of Toro Bravo, this beer is intended to pair with his restaurantís spicy, rich, and layered tapas menu. For additional resonance between the beer and Johnís food, we used a touch of Espelette pepper in the brew kettle.

On draught at Breakside 2/16 for Zwickelmania 2013. Red amber in color. Full-bodied taste with a smokey, peppery spice to it. Surprisingly easy-drinking.

Pours deep amber with a finger of off-white head. Caramel malt and smoky, peppery goodness. Quite complex and not overly spicy.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy/creamy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain), lightly hoppy (apricot), with notes of butter, frosting, vegetables/chiles. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic, lightly to moderately burning. Not a lot happening in the nose, seemingly some diacetyl though, and as with most chile beers I really donít understand why youíd want a vegetal note in beer, it just makes it smell off, akin to DMS. The flavor balance errs on the sweet side but as expected itís somewhat burning in the aftertaste, which they may have intended to try to help balance the sugars. Overall kind of unpleasant and clunky.

Bomber. Clear orange copper, creamy fine off-white foam settles and lasts. Lightly spiced toasted caramel malt aroma. Taste is lightly sweet lean caramel malt and not much else, no hops, no heat. Average carbonation, thin bodied, low hopped. Disappointing. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

Tap at Bakushu Club Popeye, Tokyo. Reddish orange shade. Short head. Piney hops throughout. Did not know that this was brewed with peppers and found the heat strange. Now that I know, I can say that their attempt was successful, but that it doesnít make for a great beer. Intriguing but not for me.

Bomber. Light amber copper in color. Rich, earthy taste. Good, balanced smoked chile flavors. Subtle and lingering slow burn. Tastes like a sun-drenched dirt field, in a good way.

On tap @ Manito, Spokane. Our final destination after hitting 12 breweries on the NW Ale Trail for TvMís bachelor party. Red-orange hue, earthy caramel aroma and flavour, soft ripe tropical fruit nuances, peppery capsicum note in the finish. No heat that I could detect, but a really nicely flavoured amber.

Clear brilliant amber with a sticky foamy off white head. The nose has this wonderful complexity of earthy sweetness and lovely non-acidic or hot peppry tones. Nice quaffable body and flavor thatís just right all-around. Nice earthy sweetness, amber biscuitiness, and a non-spicy green pepper flavor thats complimentary to the earthy sweet red malt.

Bomber. Honestly smells sweet and caramelly with a tiny singe of pepper and vegetable. Flavors up front are almost appleish with sweet malts that blend right into a light but known pepper singe in the finish. Not as spicy as me and me girlie were hoping for, but still a decent brew.

22 Oz bottle pour. Pours a thick copper color with a ton of head and lace. Spicy pepper and malt aroma. Really thick, creamy body with rich malt and hints of spicy peppers. Really good. Enjoyed this.

Really excited about this. One of the best restaurants in town collaborating here. Amber/red with a good off-white head. A dry, lightly smoky aroma with hints of cocoa and wood and a light toffee sweetness. It is remarkably complex with heavy vanilla and caramel then crisp but very light bitterness, smoked paprika and a little heat in the belly. This is maybe the best chilli beer Iíve ever had. I think itís savory/sweet balance is the perfect way to do it.
