Tap at Breakwater. Pours bright orange with small head. Super bright pungent citrus hop aroma. Orange, mango, tangerine, burnt caramel and raw sugar. Taste is same. No alcohol burn, very smooth with an intense hop forward finish. This reminds me of Frank DIPA. Kirk really knows his hops and how to build a master piece of a DIPA!!!! Get it while you can.

Best iipa nose ever. Pineapple, tropical fruit, grapefruit, pine, floral, every amazing hop aroma ever plus soft malty sweetness that just balances. God this smells good. I want to pour this on myself before I start everyday. Regis christ. Pours golden bright orange, great lace and head. Was a 4 til I noticed all the hops sitting in the bottom of the glass. This is killing expectations. Full hoppy flavor - pineapple, grapefruit, pine, weed. Its an amalgamation of hop flavors plus light - super light malty sweetness. Hops are resiny and sticky, but juicy and sweet. Drinkability is unbelievable! Top ten for sure.I could only imagine this fresh off tap because after 2 weeks growlered it is one of best beers I’ve ever had.

Growler from riversideak...wooo! Unfiltered golden with hop bits and a huge head. Wow...the nose is god damn amazing! The combo of pineapple, mango, resin, super danky weed, honey and light malt to balance. Body feel is right, chewy but not too heavy and perfect carb. So citrusy up front, but not overly sweet and goes quickly into prickly pine, bitter citrus zest and grass...fuck this is good. If this beer is this good out of a over filled 2+ week old growler, I can’t imagine how good it is fresh. Thanks Alex!

Tap @ Breakwater. Pours a hazy golden orange with a small off white ring that left some spotty lacing. Tons of fresh pine and fresh squeezed tangerine on the nose as well as a good amount of sweet caramel malt. Brew was very hoppy and sticky on the palate. This seriously rivals PTE, Dreadnaught....ect.......great stuff!!

Draft at bp. This brew has chunks of hops in it. Awesome. Great lacing. Orange, grapefruit, mild resin and pine. AWESOME IIPA.

Tasted on tap at the 10th Bistro Double IPA Festival on 2/6/2010. This Imperial IPA pours a light orange gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is floral and grapefruity. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and floral. Nicely balanced. Medium to high bitterness. Good carbonation. A nice over the top with the hops Imperial IPA. Ya know it sort of reminds me a little of Frank. This was the best beer I had at this year’s fest. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

growler. thanks, riverside! pours a cloudy, chunky dark orange with a loose white head. lots of stringy lace. enormous candied pineapple nose, there’s incredibly bright pine in there and lots of dazzling citrus fruit. creamy medium body with lively carb. orange, tangerine, grapefruit, caramel, and toast on the mid palate...dry and clean, no stickiness, no oil, no lingering gumminess. just entirely drinkable but the aromatics and fruity flavors are overwhelmingly good, intoxicating in their power and allure. delectable, delectable dipa.

This rating goes out to deftim13, for letting me know Maverick awesomeness was on tap, and to doubleo, so I can gloat about having one more Breakwater rating than him. I don’t know if I’ll ever catch up with his PP ratings. Maverick’s was on tap at Breakwater. I tried a half pint, while listening to Tom Sawyer playing on the jukebox in the background. Huge in your face citrus hop aroma. Tons of hop flavor. Medium hop bitterness. Leans dry. Very easy to drink. Reminds me of Mongo IPA times 1.3. Awesome!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 9, 2010
On tap at the brewpub 2/21/10: Pours a barely transparent orange bronze with a spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of semi-sweet pale malts and lots of fresh grapefruity resiny hops and piny notes. Starts with nice light caramely sweetness and a good fresh resiny hop flavor and bitterness before a crisp bittersweet grapefruity finish. Very well balanced with an assertive hoppiness throughout. An enjoyable and dangerously drinkable IIPA. Glad to see the old Pizza Port Frank live on!
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 iowaherkeye (2505) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - DEC 21, 2009
On tap @ Breakwater Brewing Co. Rumor is that this is the new incarnation of Pizza Port Frank. Clear amber golden with a creamy one finger off-white head, fading to a thick ring and tattered film before long, and served ice cold. Huge pineapple and grapefruit rind nose with some dank weed behind, even hints of melon. Only some light caramel sweetness is present so far. The flavor is the same fantastic hop bomb with the caramel malts pulling off the light cotton candy sweetness, even blending with some tasty dry-hopped herbal notes. Bitterness wasn’t ungodly high--maybe at a 6--with some light warming alcohol. I wouldn’t guess this to be 8.7%. Semi-dry. Medium-full body with lighter prickly carbonation. Fantastic.
