COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppy? Brother, 471 redefines hoppy. 471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy. (Available at Breckenridge Pubs and Restaurants and bottled as 471 Small Batch Double Hopped IPA.)

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2007 Arriving as a gift in a 22 oz. brown bomber, the beer poured out pale golden amber with a generous three finger foamy head. Aroma was typical of an American IPA with pine, grapefruit, and grass notes imparted by the hops, and malt sweetness I was not anticipating. Tasted like it smelled, and I’d have been surprised if it didn’t. The taste exhibited a harmonious interplay between the grapefruit citric notes and the snappy spicy bitterness of the hop varieties. Sweetness of the malt was there in a sufficient strength the keep the hops from getting too out of hand. Mouthfeel was somewhat gritty and sticky for an IPA, and the aftertaste supplied a lingering dry bitterness. Alcohol seemed a bit too present and warming for an IPA, until I looked up the strength. And I was surprised to see a 9.2% up there. At that strength it is at the upper end of the DIPA scale, and for that style this is quite a subtle alcohol presence. This was, much easier to drink than most DIPAs. Didn’t quite match the ease of gulping down of a regular American IPA, but it came too close to be a very dangerous beer.

Bottle. Big hop aromas and flavours of perfumey sweet ripe fruit. Spicy, grapefruit, pine and resin flavors dominate a nice sweet soft grain profile and palate. Ends a long plea sent bitter. A very nice ipa.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours copper-amber color with a light tan head that leaves little lacing. Has a fruity citrus aroma that is very pleasant with a hint of grape, pint and maybe caramel with an undertone of alcohol. Initial sweet taste with citrus hops and light malt with a bitter back end with a nice lingering citrus and hop flavor. Has a full body with a decent mouthfeel. Overall a great brew that I would drink again.

AndresTM (185) - Texas, USA - MAY 1, 2012
UPDATED: MAY 4, 2012 Fresh hops in the aroma with loads of grapefruit, pineapple, resin, eucalyptus, and caramelized sugar. The taste is consistent with the aroma. It lingers, but not for long. As DIPAs go, this is smooth and gentle on your tongue, almost refreshing and soothing. Medium body, light carbonation. Have more than two bottles and it will start to betray you—the sneaky little bastard is packed with more alcohol than you’d know from the aroma or taste. Great beer.

Served on tap. Deep golden brown, head disappears quickly. The smell is fruity and earthy, very faint hints of malt peep through. Taste follows accordingly, with the fruity sweetness hitting you up front which fades into an earthy, hoppy bite. The sweetness lingers. Light carbonation, goes down easy. Overpriced, but a good beer.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a nice wispy white head. Nose is all citrus, predominantly grapefruit with some mango. Taste is full of flavor, mostly citrus and heavy tasteful bitterness. Finish is somewhat dry and long, alcohol hidden well. Great and flavorful, drink for the taste , obviously not a thirst quencher. Nice ! Quaff Score 8 /10. Beware.....for hopheads only.
