3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Walt (2449) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 15, 2008
Pour is opaque brownish black with a thin big bubbled off white head...smell is like some sort of candy that I cannot remember but it will drive me nuts...sort of a cookie thing...taste is sweet and toasty at first with a nice toasty flavor carrying all the way to the finish...why does this remind me of Easter? Somehow it does...a little thin...

Meh, its alright. Not much of an aroma, just a weak hint of bitter cocoa and metallic note. Alcohol a little too present in the flavor. Some mild caramel and chocolate, a hint of floral hops but just barely. Also, a spicy note, almost like cinnamon. Warming, alcoholic finish. I don’t know the ABV on this one, but either way its too apparent. Brown color tinted purple, with a small head, no lacing and low overall carbonation.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shigadeyo (2400) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - OCT 10, 2006
Dark brown color with reddish hues; clear. Tan colored head that leaves a lasting crown. Aroma is caramel, light roast, and some alcohol notes. Flavor is caramel, slightly nutty, and just a hint of milk chocolate. Alcohol is quite detectable but not offensive in any way. Body is medium to light, but smooth. Overall I think this is a nice beer for a really good price.
22 oz bottle, $2.99 from the Pour House Bottle Shop.

Clear chestnut pour produces a small eggshell head that left minimal lacing. Aroma is dark malt, toasted almonds, and molasses. Flavor includes rich caramel, dark fruit, and chocolate. Not thick or viscous...medium mouthfeel. Pretty tasty.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2007 Bottle from Friar Tuck in Savoy, IL. Pours a dark brown with some ruby hues and a dissipating off white head. Aroma of brown sugar, hazlenut, and cocoa powder. Initial flavor of caramel, brown sugar, and wet grains- all with moderate sweetness. Mid palate has just enough hops to balance it out but is quickly overpowered by astringency. Some vanilla on the finish that is then is dominated unpleasant fusel alcohol Messy and unbalanced. Improves at room temperature.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 28, 2006
Dusky brown body, light crimson and clear at sides and foot, under a creamy-toned cap of 1/4" foam.
Aroma is toasty and dry, hints of cocoa and coffee, earthy, rustic, grainy.
On the palate:...not...bad...greets the tongue sweetly, then fades, turns crisp and dry, falls into roasted grain and bounces off. A bit flatter than I’d prefer, but fine and drinkable, nonetheless. Medium bodied, tasty, neat, roasty finish.

Aroma is rich and malty with lots of nutty notes and some mild chocolate aroma. Body is dark brown and holds a thumb thick tan head. Flavor is pretty nice. Solidly a brown ale, but the intensity is upped so that the lightly roasted malts, nuttiness and mild chocolate notes you’d get in your average heavier brown ale are all much more concentrated here. I think this one is getting a bad rap. I thought it was damn nice.

Pours reddish brown with a fully receding tan head. Notes of sweet toffee, caramelized fruit, toasted and brown malt. Full bodied and lightly sweet with medium carbonation.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 drjay44 (2131) - Salida, Colorado, USA - JUL 26, 2009
22 oz. bottle. Shared with Gabe. Pours a short lived mocha head, over a dark brown (SRM 35) body.....nose is coffee, sweet caramel....taste initially is sweet toffee, bit of molasses, mild nuttiness drifts in, finishes with alcohol sharpness and hop bitterness, the sweetness is present throughout. This is a pleasant brew, but misses the classic brown style, with a both hop and alcohol being too strongly represented.
