Pours black. Smells roasty and chocolatey. Taste is sweet and smooth and bittersweet chocolate and cardboard. So so. Drinkable but not enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
There were two new ones from Breckenridge in the local supermarket today, so I picked up a four pack of this one. Maybe tomorrow Iíll grab a sixer of the other one (some sort of holiday ale type thing? weíll see). But as I like this brewery quite a bit (especially their oatmeal stout, which I buy regularly), I figured might as well start with the stout.
Good beer in all aspects, appearance, flavor, aroma, body,, mouthfeel, finish, worthy of the Breckenridge name, and meets my pretty high expectations for them as well.
Itís black with a pretty good head that doesnít disappear right away. Roasty and chocolate notes dominate the flavor and aroma, along with some coffee, and a considerable milk-chocolate component, more than I expected (but thatís fine, my expectations are sometimes off base, and after all, it is a milk stout).
The body is nice and thick, good and chewy, which is how I like my oatmeal, sweet, and usually other forms of stout. You really need a knife and fork here, the body is as full or beyond that of any similarly styled beer I"ve tried.
Overall, itís a well done beer, very enjoyable. Iíll have to pick up some more of this one soon.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Keg @ Sedona. Deep brown with a tiny head. The nose is super sweet. Melted chocolate fudgecicle cake. Cream. The taste is similarly sweet. Plenty of caramel, hot chocolate. Brown sugar. Mild grainy tastiness. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, a few ounces is more than enough for a few reasons.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours an extremely dark brown color. The head a nicely uniform one finger khaki shade. Itís bubbly yet soft, retaining itself acceptably. Small streaks of lacing are left on the glass.
S: Lots of lactose cream. And I mean a lot. Chocolate also comes through quite well, and combined with the sweet nuttiness also provided, almost gives it a roasted hazelnut vibe. Roasted barley comes out when it warms up. A very likable aroma, actually.
T: Chocolate is prevalent on the opening, fading out past the midtaste. At first, the finishing combination of roasted barley and leafy hops actually do a good job of cutting the sweetness...but only at first. Vanilla and cream soda notes start to accumulate on the palate, drowning out the roasted/hoppy bitterness and replacing it with a cloying sensation. Aside from being too sweet, itís also kind of messy...with just a bit more balance, this one could have been really good.
M: It doesnít have the creamy-yet-dry finish I like in a milk stout. Given how sweet it is, the mildly rough palate isnít a good fit with all of the sweetness running rampant. Drinkable enough, I suppose, if the sweetness doesnít deter you.
O: I really liked the aroma here - wish I could say the same about the flavor profile and palate feel. While itís not bad, it doesnít come together nearly as well as it should.

Small creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet roasted, dark malts, dark sugar, mocha, caramel, lactose, coffee. Taste is sweet, dark sugar, mocha, coffee, grass, lactose. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough, a little too sweet.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Dark brown pour with a thin khaki head. Rich chocolate aroma. The flavor is much lighter on the chocolate than anticipated with the sweetness from the lactose coming through. Surprising amount of alcohol warmth from this one. A good milk stout, but I donít get as much chocolate as I had hoped for.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes: Poured opaque black, with a small, thin tan head and moderate bubbling along the glass. Aroma is roasty and chocolatey. Medium body, mildly oily, with a soft, pleasing finish. Rich chocolatey flavor that mixes with a roasty note that lingers nicely. The cream comes forward as it warms, and mixes with the chocolate while lending a light sweetness.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark brown pour with tan head ring. Sweet almost lactose notes. Roasty and cocoa, but somewhere in the aroma, there is a tootsie roll. Some coffee and a bit of tobacco on the finish. But overall, a pleasant, drinkable sweet stout. Nothing overly special though.
