Pretty nice stout. Lots of chocolate with a little creaminess. Pours black with good head and lacing. Finishes bitter with light sweetness. Great balance, and good beer all around. Happy to enjoy this at Happy Hour at GBD.

Draft at GBD in Washington DC. Poured a dark, almost black color with a dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, some roasted notes, vanilla. Some chocolate milk notes, some light coffee, went well as an after-dinner drink.

Big Texas Beer Fest. Dark pour with a brown head. Aroma is vanilla, bakers cocoa, and burned toast. Taste is chocolate milk, chocolate, and almost booze.

Black pour. Tan head. Aroma of roast dark chocolate malt. Taste follows nose with a nice creamy quality.

Appearance: Pitch black pour into the glass producing a tall and creamy tan head. The head has fine carbonation bubbles and decent retention.
Aroma: The aroma is restrained but bitter dark chocolate, powdered cocoa, creamer, and a slightly smokey and roasty aroma is present. The aroma is balanced and a bit too weak to be fully enjoyed.
Taste: Creamer lays the base for hints of smoke, roasted malts, fig, dark chocolate and powdered cocoa, in no particular order. This is balanced nicely, a bit mellow, but nice to drink.
Palate: Soft full body, mild carbonation.
Overall: A very nice stout that wouldn’t stand out among any heavy hitter, but finds a spot still. It’s a reserved beer with good balance and good complexity. This would suit mild desert dishes.

72 opens with a pour that produces a quickly fading tan head over an opaque black body.
The aroma is roasted malts, coffee and chocolate.
The flavor is lightly sweet, chocolate milk, dry cocoa powder.
Smooth and creamy.

12oz bottle into Le Guinness 2010 - nose is coffee and milk chocolate. Sip adds nothing but emphasizes the roast of the coffee flavor. Chewy. Considering how strong the dark chocolate bitterness is, it’s fairly sweet. Meh.

Served in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a nearly pitch black with a thin brown head. The head faded relatively fast giving a moderate level of lacing.
Smell – Pleasant roasty and chocolate notes are nice and heavy. The roast of is darker-bitter chocolate malts with only the faintest bit of sweetness hidden within.
Taste –The taste is as the nose would suggest. Roasted chocolate flavors are heavy up front and throughout the taste. Along with the darker chocolate in the beginning, that are some notes of espresso mixed in. Toward the middle, the bit of vanilla sweetness that was detected in the nose comes into fruition, but is soon largely lost again to a more bitter cocoa flavor at the very end.
Mouthfeel – The body is on the creamier side with a lower level of carbonation. It’s creamy body makes it sooth the tongue. This soothing is only enhanced by the very lightness of the carbonation, which gives the beer a chance to “cling”. Together the two characteristics create quite a nice mouthfeel
Overall – This was a nice roasty-more bitter stout. It has nice chocolate flavors and a very nice mouthfeel. Not to shabby.
