COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Exclusively for Old Chicago Restaurants - Buddha’s Hand witbier, or wheat beer, is brewed in the Belgian tradition with an American twist. Cascade hops along with a grain bill of Two Row, White Wheat, Caramel 30, Carapils and Torified Wheat afford this ale its 5.5% ABV and 17 IBU’s. What makes the hazy ale so unique is the addition of the fragrant Buddha’s hand citron plant fruit. The tropical fruit is segmented into finger-like sections, resembling the hand of Buddha, and responsible for a crisp, refreshing and lightly citrusy flavor perfect for summer enjoyment.

I tried this beer for the first time on a whim (it was on sale) was not disappointed in the least. Wouldn’t expect less from this brewery.

Draft. Poured hazy white yellow color with an average creamy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate yeast, hop and sweet citrus aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet citrus finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a refreshing beer.

10oz on tap at Cock & Bull in Hyde Park. Completely cloudy amber / orange / lightly brown color. Very interesting flavor profile. That buddha fruit is citrusy. Some orange, some grapefruit, some lemon zest, some rind. Something else that’s tropical about this. Medium body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Kind of a crisp dry finish. Thin white head. Little loose lace. Nice zesty sweet taste. Tasty fruity tropical witbier. Unique, creative, interesting stuff.

Draft to taster. Looks alright; a cloudy dark gold with off-white lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast, wheat, and citrus. Tastes like it smells with some clove too. Average on the palate. Okay.
