MrBunn (1520), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 14, 2005 Updated: Nov 18, 2005Beautiful dark brownish-red pour with a massive cream head... maybe a little bit too frothy, but that’s splitting hairs. Great lacing. Aroma is a bit weak, of malt, maybe a bit of spice and very mild fruit/hops. The only flaw in the taste is that it comes off as a bit watery about midway through it’s development on the palate. I would agree with heemer’s detection of a tea-like flavor, there is certainly something tangy in there. Also flavors of christmas cheer... There is a slight warmth to it, but it still retains its crispness. Grassy aftertaste with a ginger/cinnamon spicing comes and goes. Not bad, but I’d like a little more complexity. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Nov 12, 2005 Dark amber body with a thin white head. The aroma was fresh with a little bit of oranges. There is also some iced tea. Reminds me a little bit of an Oktoberfest. The taste has some sweet ginger bread with some light cinnamon in the finish. There is also a little bit of tea and grass. This has a lot of carbonation. There is a slightly metallic hint to the finish. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Sep 6, 2005 christmas in summer, pours a dark murky brown, some minimal head with great lacing..Has a port plum smell, faint twisted chocolate..not to bad of a beer, might be nice cellared. BeerRules (237), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 26, 2005 Big malt nose, did they spice this beer at all, it sure smells like they did. Taste is very alcoholic, sweet, and nutty. Mouthfeel is medium and has low carbonation. This big alcohol taste is a problem for me, but other than that, this beer aint bad. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Aug 7, 2005 Bottle: Aroma is very light. Light caramel, light chocolate, and light nuttiness. Pours a dark cloudy brown with a light orange coming thru when held to the light. Insignificant off-white head that is instantly a ring. Lightly sweet up front with light caramel and fruit. Nuttiness in the background. Fruitiness turns a little sour in the finish with some acidity along with some spice and the slightest hint of flowery bitterness. As it warms, it seems to gain more of a sweet fruitiness and the sourness in the finish decreases. Not the greatest Christmas Ale but still decent. BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 21, 2005 This is a very substantial, thick bodied Christmas ale. Deep copper color and long lasting deep off-white head. Aroma is truly warming. Flavor is deeply chocolate malty. Especially notable for this alcohol level are: 1) a strong hop level especially on the side of the palate, and 2) a very sharp, vibrant finish. The alcohol itself is perhaps slightly harsh. I am pleased with this offering, one of the best winter beers out there. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Jun 5, 2005 Nice light brown head that had a decent hang time then faded slowly to leave little behind. The aroma was malty with maybe a hint of fruit and spice in the back ground. The flavor wasn’t as bad as i thought it might be.Nicely malty with a fruity side and just a bit of spice in there to round out things. The alcohol seems to make a decent appearance, not over whelming in any way but decent enough to let you know it’s there.Over all not bad at all and worth another try. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Mar 31, 2005 Lots of bready malts in the nose as well as leather too - Body is thin and almost has a ’plastic’ aftertaste. Maybe this has taken a turn for the worse already? Not much warmth in the finish either.
