Deep copper color and long lasting deep off-white head. Aroma is truly warming. Flavor is deeply chocolate malty. Especially notable for this alcohol level are: 1) a strong hop level especially on the side of the palate, and 2) a very sharp, vibrant finish. The alcohol itself is perhaps slightly harsh. I am pleased with this offering, one of the best winter beers out there. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Nice light brown head that had a decent hang time then faded slowly to leave little behind. The aroma was malty with maybe a hint of fruit and spice in the back ground. The flavor wasn’t as bad as i thought it might be.Nicely malty with a fruity side and just a bit of spice in there to round out things. The alcohol seems to make a decent appearance, not over whelming in any way but decent enough to let you know it’s there.Over all not bad at all and worth another try. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 31, 2005 Lots of bready malts in the nose as well as leather too - Body is thin and almost has a ’plastic’ aftertaste. Maybe this has taken a turn for the worse already? Not much warmth in the finish either. Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA

Flavor is sweet malt, with dark fruits(raisins) and a little nuttiness. Finishes with a little spiciness. Not too bad, kind of run of the mill for a xmas ale, the dog does seem to like this one. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2005 Very clear and calm brown with a little red and a fairly standard head. Aroma is malty sweet while also a bit sour and wine like. Seems a little off or dirty though. Creamy feel above a malty base. Sweet malts and a little sourness in the mouth. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA
