Flavors of malt, alcohol, light spice, and sugar. Sweeter than many strong ales. Thin body. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 12, 2004 Nothing special. Bottle. Poured amber, no head, little aroma. No big taste either. The alcohol is hidden, but so is the taste. Maybe it was a bad bottle, but, if it was as good as the label, it would have been better. Frank (1066), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2004 This was a gift from the most benevolent Heemer77 and a good one. Murky medium brown with just a slight ring of head. Nose is very mild yet this is still a flavorful ale. Definitely Christmasy with a bit of caramel sweetness, toffee and slight notes of chocolate and vanilla. Medium bodied and somewhat creamy with subdued carbonation. Deceptively easy drinking for relatively high gravity. A few of these could definitely warm you and some friends on a cold night in. argo0 (6890), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is medium sweet, roasty/burnt caramel, some nutty, light sour cherry. Taste is medium sweet, nutty, some caramel, roasty, light astringent. Creamy medium body with low carbonation. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2004 Dry, roasted malt aroma with hints of molasses. Dark amber red. Slow carbonation. No head. Nice flavor. Caramelly, roasted malt, sweet, with some molasses. Reasonably hoppy. Well balanced. Similar in essence to Town Hall’s Dusseldorf Altbier. Has the same subtly hoppy finish. This is a good effort despite its lackluster reviews. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 5, 2004 bottle. pours a clear dark amber with a small head and virtually no lacing. somewhat malty and the alcohol is well hidden. I had a couple of Breckenridge brews on tap at the brewpub a couple of years ago and if memory serves me correctly, this is one of their better efforts. Description is a bit deceptive. Pleasant nose abundant with caramel malt aroma. However, rather than rich caramel and chocolate the flavor was predominantly acidic with a raisin or plum finish. I will not be rushing to open my second bottle. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 4, 2004 Dusty red-amber. Huge malty nose, loads of butterscotch. Excellent malty flavor as well, lots of chocolate, bit raisiny in the fruit, but caramel, toffee, and butterscotch predominate. Nicely creamy as well.
