| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Dec 10, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours red with a ring of white foam for a head. Nose of burnt coffee, like its been in the pot too long. Tastes the same, with an astringent bitter at the end. Just not good. It may have been this bottle, but its undrinkable. jbuzz (664), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 8, 2007 Poured a cloudy dark brown with almost no head. Fantastic aroma. A very full and smooth flavor. This would make a great “stocking stuffer” for anyone’s holiday. mcox90 (661), Wilton, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy of Acknud. Pours a deep, but clear brown color with a 1/2" head that appeared at first to be an olive green, wtf, but then settled out to an offwhite tan. Good lacing on my pint glass. Had a lot of flavors of dark fruits, plums, raisins & dates. Was very lightly spiced with some nutty flavors. No hop flavor to speak of. I enjoyed this seasonal brew. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2002 It was like pouring water with less head than cola and uneventful aroma. Carmely taste would go great with sundays or cinnimon toast, though. Very smooth, very pleasent, very drinkable. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 2, 2000 Tried this last holiday season. Very nice holiday ale. Deep amber/brown color, very luscious, assertive hop nose. Doesn’t smell like Cascade hops, kind of unique hop aroma. Spicy, warming and toasty initial palate. Tends to lose its assertiveness however, around mid-bottle. Fairly long, sweet, but hoppy and crisp finish. Worth a try. belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2002 SLight malt aroma. Body is a little light for typical christmas ale. Finishes with a slight hop bite and a little to the dry side. Quite drinkable otherwise. talon1117 (634), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Pours a clear, rusty, garnet color with an off-white, fairly small, frothy head which diminshes quickly and leaves minimal lace. Nose is faint but not unpleasant; roasted almonds, toasty caramel, and hints at resinous hops and raisin. Flavor is actually not too bad with plenty of roasted almonds, toasty caramel, some faint undistinguishable spices, faint fruitiness, and light notes of hops bringing a moderately mild bitterness. Palate is medium, nearly lively and watery but smooth in texture. Finishes with the caramek notes becoming a bit sweeter, the roasted almonds, and the hop notes becoming a bit offputting. Not one of my favorite winter ales but at least a drinkable one with some decent qualities.
