| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Updated: Mar 1, 2007I agree with several reviewers. The aroma was confusing and off-putting and the strong alcohol finish was rather prominent and not pleasant. There are better Christmas ales out there.
Addendum: I just had another after having had other beers earlier...The sharp alcohol note disappates after you’ve had a couple. This might be better as the last beer of the night. peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 5/5 | 8/20 | Dec 15, 2005 For a christmas/winter ale this was simply non-festive. I expect some spice and fruit aromas and flavors for the style. As an ale its allright, nothing special, but for a holiday brew it seriously lacks some style definiting taste. pjk33 (384), Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 5, 2005 Bottle. On a trade from Kaggie97. Thanks! Nose is a little harsh, like a lighter dunkel...sweetens a bit as it warms, but not spicy or hoppy in the aroma. Lacing really sticks although the head makes a quick exit. Medium amber color with great clarity. A little more hop and malt flavor in this than I expected from the aroma. Decent body and a nice kick as it glides down the throat. Lets try some more...the only time that I get the full taste of the hops is in the little burps at the end of a quaff. Nice addition though... I like that mix, which is very malty and cocoa with a very little hop smack as you place the glass back on the table. Good mouthfeel - burning and sizzling as it coats the tongue and throat. I like this one too. Thanks again Kev. BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 21, 2005 This is a very substantial, thick bodied Christmas ale. Deep copper color and long lasting deep off-white head. Aroma is truly warming. Flavor is deeply chocolate malty. Especially notable for this alcohol level are: 1) a strong hop level especially on the side of the palate, and 2) a very sharp, vibrant finish. The alcohol itself is perhaps slightly harsh. I am pleased with this offering, one of the best winter beers out there. ford9719 (369), Vilseck, Germany
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 21, 2007 Bottle. Poured a ruby black color. Aroma is malt and sugar. Taste is sweet with a nice finish. valpoaj (363), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Little to no head accents this deep amber brew. Aroma is difficult to pinpoint, but has hints of spice and nuts. Bitter, yet warm finish due to the quality alcohol content, a nice, if not overwhelming, slow-drinking beer for the winter season walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Reddish brown with offwhite head. Aromas of toasted grain, brown sugar, raisin, apple, and a slight alcoholic twinge. Flavor is mostly fruity caramel malt with enough bitterness to hold it together. Tasty stuff, even though I wondered how old it was....
