3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep amber pour. The aroma is soft and malty with a bright pine character cutting through it. Has a little bit of pepper and some nice spiciness throughout. Moderately sweet but well balanced. Has a little bit of lingering bitterness. Nice, Christmassy tasting brew.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle at home. Pours brown with three fingers of off white head. Aroma was slight caramel and malt, but a good dose of electrical tape also. Smelled very off. This came through in the flavor also. Tasted like bad home-brew. Very disappointing. This was my only bottle and so I can’t tell if it is just the beer, or if I got a bad bottle. Either way, it wasn’t good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A refreshing holiday ale in that it’s not overly spiced. Pours copper with nice lacing. Quite malty for the style and a little more bitter than expected, but very good overall!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I’ve had this several times both when released and after extended cool aging. Decidedly on the malty side of the fence, and doesn’t taste like they are adding spices the way some other Christmas ales are made (which I hate, fwiw). Not quite in the Scotch ale category but close (not fruity enough). Perfectly clear, dark amber, great head, aroma is caramel, malt, some alcohol. Taste is balanced, toffee, caramel, sweet malt, with a tiny bit of chocolate malt coming through in the finish. This beer ages well, I bought a flat at the end of January 1 and 2 years ago and have a few left of each and they still drink well. This beer is better cool not cold.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This beer was just sweet and malty enough to cover the alcohol. A little bit of spice but mostly malts, caramel, some darker fruits. A dry finish. Good but not a sessionable beer.
