2012 bottle, #51/480. Pours a deep dark reddish-brown with a foamy off-white head. Strong and sweet whiskey aroma, with malt, wood, sugar, and a bit of hoppy bitterness. Taste is crisp and clean, of malt, juicy dark fruits, sugar, a hint of smoke, and woodsy whiskey underneath it all. Lingering clean wood and malt, with kind of a small, watery mouthfeel. Tasty BA ale, very drinkable.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, brown bread, toasted oak, whiskey, coconut, raisin, plum, apple, light chocolate, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, brown bread, toasted oak, whiskey, coconut, raisin, plum, apple, light chocolate, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and whisky/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted brown bread, whiskey, coconut, raisin, plum, apple, light chocolate, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/oak spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome English strong ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, whiskey barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft. Poured dark clear brown color with an average off-white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate spice, toasted caramel malt and whiskey aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium dark sweet flavor with a medium spice sweet and whiskey finish of moderate duration.

4oz on tap at Brass Tap. Labeled 7.4% here. Nice vanilla, whiskey barrel, and strangely, minty aroma up front. Something like mint julep type of beverage, peppermint? Am I imagining that? Spruce, vague winter spices, some caramel. Hint of milk chocolate. Mostly clear red orange brown color. Nice thin off-white head, leaves good webs of lace. Moderate-plus sweet taste, light bitter. Bit of the alcohol -- the touch of warmth is nice, but there’s also a mild bite to it as well. Medium to bigger body, mild slick texture. Light carbonation, kind of creamy. Kind of strange, but not bad. A lot different than I expected, seems to work. Spices (however much of that there was in the base, I don’t remember) are mellowed out here, whiskey seems to work decently with the malt profile here.

Red brown pour with a quickly dissipating head which quickly fades completely. Simple beer but executed well. Cherry, oak, some nuttiness, caramel, some muted hops. The Whiskey aspect and hops keep it from being too sweet.

Draft at Moriartys. Dark clear brown amber pour with beige foam that left a good amount of lace. Semi-dark malt flavors with some bright hop notes. Glossy chocolate liquorice. Clove. Plum pudding. Rubarb. Molasses. Dried strawberries. Browned peaches. Reasonably balanced but feels quite boozy. Not bad at all.

Big bottle. Fridge chilled. About a third of a glass, served in tulip glass. Thin off white head. Head dosnt last long.Beer is a clearish brown. Some light lacing. Aroma is on the weaker side. Notes of whiskey. Taste is medium sweet. Notes of light malts and some whiskey. Some light spices. Maybe some dried fruite like notes. Light to mesium bodied beer with average carbonation. Surprisingly smooth. Overall a good variation of a holiday ale.
