Roasted coffee, nuts, and molasses on the nose. Flavor is a ton of roasted malts, unsweetened chocolate, and smokiness. Pretty dry finish. MesandSim (5807), London, Greater London, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2007 A Sim rate (on tap at the Flyng Saucer Houston): Nice sweet aroma of oatmeal and dark chocolate. I just wish it was stronger. Opaque appearance with amazing lace. Bitter, bitter chocolate flavour. Bitter finish, but in a fascinating appealing way. Thick and oatmealy palate. Really enjoyed this one. milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 15, 2007 Less sweet than many sweet stouts. Espresso flavor. Relatively weak aroma. Dark black color and medium body. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Pours black with just a hint of brown highlights at the edges, when held up to light. A loose, frothy, tan head diminishes to a creamy cap, leaving wispy lace as it retreats down the glass. On the nose is toffee, coffee and cream, roasted malts and chocolate. It’s all fairly muted, but still rather nice. Medium bodied yet thin with fine, lively carbonation, the palate concludes with a mildly dry roasted finish and just a touch of hop bitterness. French roast coffee and chocolate, dark roasted malt and peppery/spicy hops. A tad rougher and a little drier, on the finish, than I’d prefer, but overall, I think it’s a decent stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Pours molasses black with thick but small head. Aroma is unremarkable, but the taste is roasted malt, with a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. Creamy and full on the palate. A good beer, and a good stout. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 13, 2007 Pours black with a small light brown head that quickly fades into just a ring around the edge. Aroma is nutty malts, roast, light smoke, and coffee. Flavor is cocoa, malts, nuts, big roast, coffee. I tell ya. For a small 5% stout it sure has a big creamy mouthfeel. The finish is bitter and slightly smokey. jstraw (756), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Dark brown with decent creamy head / Nose of caramel and roast barley / Medium, creamy body with good finish / Muted flavors of roast coffee, toffee, and bittersweet chocolate / Not spectacular but very good. More of a dry stout, I’d say. ilovedarkbeer (1333), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Pours a dark black brown color that looks like coffee. Has a fluffy tan head and a nose that smells of roasted malt and milk. Tastes somewhat weak mostly just roasted malt and chocolate. Just ok.
