rpack78 (7), Fort Worth, Texas, USA does not count Nov 26, 2005 I thought it smelled like olives and tasted like smoke and olives. Really strong flavor. Not what I’m used to. Bitter and disgusting. MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Nov 22, 2005 12oz bottle poured in English pint - This beer pours a completely opaque brown with a frothy brown head. It looks delicious! It has the expected oatmeal aroma but nothing particularly adventerous there. It has a good oatmeally and roasted barley taste a with definite coffee base. It has a good lingering aftertaste that is warming and pleasant. There is no hint of the metallic aroma or taste that some oatmeal stouts have. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Nov 18, 2005 Very dark black color, a bit of head but not much. Looks like an island of bubbles in the center of my glass surrounded by an ocean of tar with a tan colored coral reef and distant off-white clouds around the outside of their little world. The atmosphere has a composition of chocolate, burnt oatmeal and an acidic water quality you get with some of the thinner stouts. The flavor has a bit much astringency to work with the level of sweetness they chose. Whoa-ho-ho there roasted malt! Lots of smoke too. Not the good rauch or lapsang sort though; more akin to cigarette ashes. Everything else is there in spades but they brought their unkempt hobo friend along to spoil the party. Finishes a bit thin and the astringency lingers. Like bitter expresso grounds in the bottom of your super-sweet latte. Why would you want to end it that way? I don’t know. AndrewM (126), Waco (Buckle of the Bible Belt), Texas, USA Nov 18, 2005 Pours dark with red highlights where the light comes through, with a thin quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma is extremely light. Hints of chocolate, dark fruit, coffee. Flavor is a bitter chocolate, with a bitter / dry finish. Not bad, nothing to complain about, but not really anything that stands out either. From Grapevine in Austin. Marc (477), Yokosuka, Japan Nov 16, 2005 Coco, plum, and cream in the nose. Very roasty with a little bitterness. Flavors of coffee beens, and coco accented by dark fruit. Finishes with more roasted malt and with a bit of unexpected dryness. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Nov 13, 2005 Pitch black coloured body with a medium sized brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, pit fruit and a tiny bit of anise. Medium-bodied; Chewy feel with oatmeal very noticeable. Caramel follows shortly after and some pit fruits noticeable also. Overall, a good beer - well done and worth trying. Thanks to Andy for giving me this bottle. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle pulled from a Breckenridge Sampler Pack on 01-April-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 29, 2005 Good. Light aroma of burnt malt. Black. Flavor of popcorn and light coffee. This is very smooth and easy to drink. At a cheap price, it is a good session beer. elcig (19), Oliver Springs, Tennessee, USA Oct 23, 2005 Pours from the bottle almost black with a quickly dissipating thin head. Roasted aroma isn’t very powerful and tastes of oatmeal, cocoa and licorice are paired with a bit of watery mouth feel that leave this one lacking a bit.
