Watery, weak, Disappointing flavor. Good aroma and apperance leads up to disconcerting lack of real flavor. With no aftertaste.

Black as tar, but not as thick. This is porterish in viscosity. Somewhat sweet, but not overly so. Expected sweeter for an oatmeal stout. Coffee malt flavor comes on strong. Bitter, but pleasant. Nice roast flavor. Good.

Weak coffee aroma, watery and thin for a stout, not very good.

Some chocolate in the aroma. Pretty dark beer, nearly black. Light head. but carbonation is there. Medium-bodied, roasty and somewhat dry stout. A bit of coffee and a slight hint of fruitiness. Some hops for the finish. Not a bad beer really, overall a bit light in most categories that stouts excel in.

Nice stout... I have found that the oatmeal stouts have a different sort of aroma. This one is a little watery compared to some but I have never met a stout I didn’t like.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2005 Had it on nitro spygat at the brewpub in Denver and liked it very much. Roasty-toasty but definitely not sweet. This is much more of a dry stout or even an extra stout but I did not taste the oatmeal like that in Sammy’s. 8,4,8,3,13
re-rate (5-27-05):Pours pitch black(passed the flashlight test) with a lite brown dense head. Aromas of burnt mollasses, dried fruits, coffee and milk chocolate. Silky smooth body if not a bit lite. Flavors are not nearly as complex as the nose would lead you to believe. Mostly coffee flavors with a dry hoppy bitter finish. Not bad but could be a lot better with some extra character malts. Well crafted.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2007 The dark, translucent color of this brew looks gorgeous in the glass, and smells like black coffee and malt. It tastes a little like it too, with some bitter chocolate and hops thrown in. Did I say bitter? Yes, it is! It tastes pretty good, actually, but it’s just too thin and weak for me. Even out of the bottle, this is a little thin on the palate. That is the reason I give it a lower rating. It looks good, smells good, and tastes ok, but it’s just too thin and weak. I would expect to need a fork for something this dark, that tastes like coffee and hops! Oatmeal stout? I don’t find it, and sweet stout is much more appropriate. Compared to other oatmeal stouts I’ve tried this one is a bit thin and watery. I like the very dry taste, even though it reminds me of Guinness in the bottle, but it isn’t something I crave or would buy again unless it was really cheap.

Kind of weak. Medium bitterness. Standard stuff in a stout, chocolate, oatmeal, coffee, this was really disappointing in that there was absolutely nothing original here. It was like they followed a homebrew recipe. Light bodied.

It was very beautiful in the glass. Classic dark, thick frothy brown head. The taste was very chocolatey, I didnt get a whole lot of oatiness in it. Very thin for a stout, left something to be desired. Are ’oatiness’ and ’chocolatey’ even words?
