Rich, round and roasted, our Oatmeal Stout is satisfaction in a glass. It's a bold, smooth-bodied concoction that oozes dark-roasted coffee aromas and flavors of espresso and semi-sweet chocolate. We round out these heady pleasures with a dose of flaked oatmeal for a creamy body and a semi-dry finish. Unforgettable.

Nice dark fudgy brown nearly black body with a softly sponged head of light tan foam sitting atop. Has a moderate lacing with broken sheeting and dotting. Mellow set back aroma of cocoa and partial oaty sweetness. Flavors are clean, milding, and unobtrusively set within a very light bitter chocolate array bringing a bit of coffee notation in the finish. Mere hints to oats or barley waver in and out mostly in the front and middle. Submerged only behind its quickness is a slight tang of oaty sweetness. Finish is where the bittering coffee takes an upward turn and helps keep it from being completely hollow. Feel is a light-medium body with a somewhat milky creamyness until the finish where it turns quite roastified and bittered with coffee acsents. Which is the only thing worthy of its overall character. Could be richer, could be fuller, but seems to fit with what the flavors are doing. Drinks down easy enough but lacks some truer Oatmeal Stout qualities I like too see in the style.

Pours with a black body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. The aroma is roasty with bitter notes, a little sweetness and slight mocha notes. The flavor is slightly sweet and roasty with a slight mocha note, some bitter notes and a touch of cigarette ash. Full bodied and smooth.

Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee, leather, toffee, cocoa, some ash. Light in body for the style with a metallic and oxidized finish and some harsh bitterness. Decent burnt and caramel flavors.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2005 Pours black. Average sized dark brown head. Chocolate malt aroma...maybe some sweet and a tiny hint of grain coming through. Flavor mimics the aroma. Coffee/chocolate malt, a little sweet, and maybe a tiny hint of grain. Not as sweet as some other sweet stouts, i.e. Mackeson XXX, but in my opinion that is a plus. Medium body, but, unfortunately, a little bit of a watery texture. Medium bitter finish that stays at the back of the tongue for a bit. Overall itís pretty good in my opinion. I will get this again when this 6 pack is gone.

In many ways itís hard to go wrong with a stout. Aroma of this beer is pleasantly chocolate with lots of malt mixed in, but nothing too complex. However, the flavor is somewhat off -- way too peaty for a stout -- definitely heads more towards the peaty porter style and could use more hops to finish this effect off. Watery, overly carbonated mouthfeel. I think a lot the problem may be the result of trying a difficult style known for demanding extreme expertise; it might be nice to compare their "conventional" stout against this relateively major release. Quite drinkable but out in left field. Plus it has a very weak head with no lacing. Again, in MOST cases itís hard to go wrong with a stout ... but oatmeals are tricky.

english pint / new label, the one with the grinning moon / it looks great, the aroma is pleasant enough, but the flavor just lacks while the palate seems thin and a bit watery. hmm. this upset me, and caused my overall impression to be lower than what normally be higher for such a great category of beer. oh well. / oat, paper, chocolate, coffee, dry, non-buttered and plain popcorn, but quite subtle in presence--watery, slight sour taint.

black, very carbonated, w/ a dry, burnt flavor. I wasnít too impressed w/ this oatmeal stout.

bottle-pours fizzy almost black with a nice beige head with good lacing to start. fizzy, chocolate and slight char and tobacco notes on the flavors. Great lacing! long roasted finish. A fairly basic session stout that I could pound easy. Still, this is far from a great stout (dark horse anybody?)

Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Light brown head, opaque dark brown in color. Sweet chocolate with medium finish. Creamy texture, medium body.

I did enjoy this beer, and to be fair, it probably would have gotten a better review had I not been taste-testing a old rasputin imperial stout in the same sitting, but one cannot help but draw comparison to what one has had most recently. It is not a bad beer, but Iíve had better oatmeal stouts.
