3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2007 Bottle. Black with a tan head that laces down the glass. sweet chocolate aroma. Oily mouthfeel hits me before the taste can register. bitter roasted malt flavor. not a sweet as i expected from the aroma. more hop flavor than i generally like in my stouts,
rerate some time in december of 06
Black body with a brown gray head. Cocoa nose that is invitingly sweet with a hint of roast flavor. A decent enough stout. A chunk of chocolate, a doughy roast flavor, a bit lactic, and all around enjoyable. Caramel in the finish with a bit of banana and more chocolate. Bitter roast flavor ands enjoyment and balance to this. A pleasure to drink.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Big beige head atop a red-clack body. Aroma is medium sweet, roasty, coffee, some chocolate. Taste is mild sweet, roasty coffee, some chocolate, finishes coffee bitter. Some hops in there as balance. Medium body, somewhat creamy. Not very sweet for a sweet stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown/black, medium head and good lacing. Starting off at the front of the taste, it was sweet and moderately thick, then gaining a strong roastyness and a fair hop presence in the finish.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark opaque appearance, dense head formation. Fruity, strong malt aroma, pastey, well roasted. Fairly eas drinking on the palate, good coffee roast, berry-like fruit, fair bitter bite in the finish. Quite a bit to talk about on the palate but nothing substantial. Just lacking a little.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
pours a deep black with dark red notes. head is light brown and short-lived, but laces well. aroma is sweetly malty, with suprisingly subdued roast notes. flavor is smooth and balanced, with maltiness fading in to a roasty bite with good hop bitterness. mouthfeel relatively full and oily, somewhat balanced by a roast/licorice bite. ok drinkability

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bittersweet chocolate and subtle coffee notes. Not as creamy and the flavor a little thin compared to some of its counterparts, but a very drinkable stout.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, snifter. Small, frothy, light brown head is somewhat diminishing, leaves good lacing, and sits on a deep black body. Chocolate and espresso malt (H); cask wood and charcoal aromas. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately bitter, lightly sweet finish. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. The bottom line is: simple, but well built...more of a dry stout to me.
