3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Quite thick with sweet aroma. Nice body overall and enjoyable to drink. Appropriate roasted/toasted malts and actually quite a smooth drink. Oatmeal adds good body.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Good sweet stout, as far as sweet stouts are concerned. Although it is a bit light and has a body and palate similar to that of a lighter Sierra Nevada porter. Lightly astringent, but overall it is probably the best selection from this brewery.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAR 3, 2008 Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (burnt grain, coffee, dark chocolate, husks). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A rather crude rendition, but drinkable.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark brown with a diminishing off white head. Alcohol and wet malt in the nose. . . Toasted barley, some oats. . .pretty dry for a sweet stout. . .not the greatest flavour.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Decent head atop a fairly light brown/red body. The aroma was like a malting floor. Creamy and smooth, with oats, malt and milk chocolate.

1.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Slight taste of oatmeal apparent. Almost no head--disappointing for a stout. Tastes fine, but has a meaty, almost manure-like odor that shouldn’t be in a beer. Decent bitterness obscures the fact that there aren’t really many flavors besides the generic stout roast/coffee. This is too thin for a stout, and I would be more apt to classify it as a dry stout than a sweet stout. Tastes somewhat salty.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
black as mink, with footnotes of umber. the head was mostly creamy but embedded with big bubbles, and as a visual accoutrement it managed a lingering lushness that almost audibly sings out: "drink me!" nose is mostly a slab of baker’s chocolate, burnt raisins, and cedar-leaf cigar wrapper. very smooth and nicely sweet: roasted oat -cluster granola washed down with coffee. alot of bitterness spreads out from that initial impact of lite fruitiness. nice, sure, but like a ten pound guard dog, perhaps just a bit weak.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma really breaks free when it is quite warm, but even before that, I sensed a nice jokt of chocolate, coffee, and above all roasted/toasted flavors. A bit harsh, too bitter in the end, but I have few complaints to make about the palate. Decent stff.

I haven’t really found a stout I can tolerate, besides Sam Adams Cream Stout and of course, the ubiquitous Guiness. The smell of ummm trash eminating from the beer was not a good sign and neither was the the tingling sensation in the back of my throat that wouldn’t stop.
