Cloudy, yellow-orange pour with a thin and creamy white head. Aroma is of apricot and lemon. Flavor is apricot, wheat and lemon. Nice creamy body. Slightly astringent finish with lingering wheat. Overall, this is pretty tasty. Little off towards the end but overall very pleasant and the citrus flavor was nice and mellow.

6 pack from the brewery. Best before May 5, 2015. Four months on the best before date for a hoppy wheat beer is pretty generous. Anyway, Ophelia is a deep orange with a very cloudy body and a small, bubbly white head. Grapefruit is right up front in the aroma followed by papaya, wheat and melon. The body is pretty hefty considering the 5% abv. Lots of hop flavor comes through like citrus and papaya, but without an obscene amount of bitterness. The wheat is very, very obvious. They must’ve used a generous portion of unmalted wheat. It’s raw and grainy tasting like eating a fresh slice of wheat bread. It’s not a bad thing. Finish is citrusy, almost limey, with tropical notes. Ophelia is a wheat beer that is rough around the edges, but doesn’t have any unpleasant qualities. The hop character is quite nice. This is one of my preferred offerings from Breckenridge.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy medium yellow.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (grain, husks), moderately hoppy (resin), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of cement, metal.
Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, unclean, husky.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Wow...I haven’t tried a Breck product in a long while, but it’s evident from this sample that they still haven’t figured out how to properly brew beer. This is all manner of dirty and clumsy...throwing a truckload of resinous hops at a rarely exciting style is their way of trying to make it interesting, which is of course the lazy way to do it. As a result it’s badly unbalanced and offers little in the nose other than the aforementioned resin. Worse, though, underneath the hop odor and brutish bitterness is evidence of terrible malt extraction (painfully husky) and industrial off-notes. A drain pour and then some.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a very hazy golden color with a thick two finger head of a pure white foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a nice level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of some bready smells mixed with a good dose of wheat and a moderately strong spice aroma. The spice is mainly of a coriander and clove nature with some hints of thyme as well. Along with these smells comes some nice hoppy aromas which are mainly of a grassy nature, but contain other smells of a floral nature as well. With a little bit of yeast and some lighter citrus sweetness mixed within the aroma, a very pleasant and inviting smell is produced overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a more cracker and biscuit malt flavor with some citrus orange sweetness upfront. As the taste moves on however, the wheat detected in the nose starts working its way onto the tongue. While this occurs some of the sweeter citrus is replaced by some hop flavors of a grapefruit and grassy nature. Some lighter floral hop flavors join the taste along this time and are accompanied by some yeasty flavors as well. While the grapefruit hop was the strongest of the hop flavors initially , the grass and floral tastes take it over at the end. With a slight increase in the wheat and a bit of a more grainy flavor that comes at the very end, one is left with a somewhat crisp and lighter to moderately hopped, wheaty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly thicker and chewier side for a beer of only 5 % abv. with a carbonation level that is rather average. The chewy body is good for the wheat flavors of the beer as well as good for accentuating the mix of hop tastes. All the while the moderate carbonation does well for the citrus, yeast, and lighter abv., making for a very enjoyable and still refreshing feel overall.
Overall – I actually really enjoyed this brew. It was very drinkable and very flavorful with a nice blend of hop, wheaty malt, and just enough sweetness to keep it all in line.

Bottle from grind. Pours pineapple with very little white head. Leaves a little bit of lacing. Has a bit of citrus on the nose. Has some citrus on the tongue without a lot of bitterness. Finished clean. Solid beer.
