The brewmaster's goal: the perfect ale for summertime quaffing, nothing more. SummerBright is the result. The craftsman's touch combines white wheat, two row pale and munich malt with the pacific northwest's most intriguing hops to create a bright, clean ale ideal for picnicking, evenings on the screen porch and enjoying the whims of the summer breeze.

I poured a 12oz can into a tumbler glass. There was no apparent freshness date. It cost $2.70 ($0.23 per ounce).

Appearance: Pale blonde hue, nearly crystal clear, some carbonation visible. Forms a small, bright white, foamy head which actually laces the glass and doesnít completely dissipates.

Smell: Generic summer beer aroma to the nth degree. Perhaps a hint of citrus, but almost lager-like.

Taste: Thereís no reason I should be rating Breckenridge SummerBright Ale as low as I am. But thereís no reason a solid craft brewery like this should be putting out such a boring beer. All thatís really wrong with this beer is that itís so unremarkable in every way. Itís needs to have a sliver of flavor worth savoring to honestly get a recommendation from me.

Trying to describe individual flavors here is challenging. Itís essentially the same as every summer ale, only milder (I didnít know that was possible, either). No distinct spices, no maltiness per se, and certainly no hop character. At least itís not off-putting with an adjunct flavor or something flawed. Iíd definitely take this over a macro lager, but whatís here is not bad, just lame.

Drinkability: While Breckenridge SummerBright Ale might not be all that fun to drink, at least itís not a challenge to do so. The mouthfeel is thin, relatively tepid and extremely smooth going down. Itís refreshing and leaves a fairly clean aftertaste. At only 4.5% ABV itís sessionable for sure, but Iíd need more flavor to want another one.

On tap at the brewery in Denver. Pour is clear straw with a frothy white head and great lacing. Wheaty, doughy, straw, lightly citrusy, and biscuity aroma. Taste is straw, wheat, lightly grassy, bread, dough, and biscuit. Light bodie with high carbonation. Easy to drink but nothing special - chuggable.

Bottle. Pours golden yellow with no head. Smells like wheat, grass, slight floral and banana. Tastes like wheat, grass and light fruit. This beer falls flat for me, nothing really enjoyable.

6/23/2010: Breckenridge Summer Bright Ale... Aroma: Weak - wheat malt and slightly yeasty. Appearance: Hazy pale yellow color; frothy white ring on top. Flavor: Lightly fruity and floral; a tinge of grapefruit peel; grain, plain beer-y finish. Palate: Light and refreshing. Overall: Definite "bright"; good up-scale lawnmower beer!

Sample from 12 fl. oz. bottle (4.5% ABV) at Martyís Hops and Vines in North College Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio). Rating #353 for this beer.

Not much aroma....faint bready wheat, and citrus. Not cloudy enough for a wheat in my opinion, dark straw color with thin head that is gone quick. Sweet wheat first....almost malt like. Finishes with faint citrus flavors, mostly lemon and a very mild bitter bite. Fairly watery with medium carbonation. Very average wheat...but refreshing.

Appearance: Clear golden straw under a thin white head which fades into a small clump of bubbles.
Nose: Faint lemon and grapefruit esters with hints of bread in the back. Generic brightness to the palate with some key lime zest in the middle.
Palate: Sweet breads in the middle followed by crunchy bread crust. Faint tickle of orange peel and spice along the edge.
Final Thoughts: Breckenridge brews some really tasty beers but unfortunately, in my book, the SummerBright Ale is not one of them. I spent more time looking for flavor then actually tasting it which is not good. Someone else may fall in love with this beer, but not me.

Looks like bud light...clear golden. Light wheaty aroma. Slight vege taste, stronger than expected, but too much for the summer beer its going for.

Can. Poured a clear golden color, nice head. Nice on the tongue, crisp and refreshing. Nice floral notes, with sone lemony citrus. Light body. A great summer beer!
