2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap into a pils glass at the flying saucer in San Antonio.
Has that pretty, cascading nitro look. Thick foamy tan head. Dark dark brown, that I coulnít see any light through. Smells of leather. Tasts of coffee, burnt malt, and leather, perhaps unsweetened cocoa. Not as sweet as it should be. There is a tannin bite to it that isnít particularly pleasant. Ok I gues, but kind of a let down.

Tap at brewpub.
Pours a deep black with a nice, olive-green head. Nose has hints of winey chocolate powder. Flavor follows suit. Average mouthfeel. Not terrible but not very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A pint at Flying Saucer in San Antonio, TX. Smells of sweet caramel with a touch of coffee and molasses. Jet black with a dark tan, thick creamy head. Itís very inviting and almost looks fake. Flavor is slighly smokey with a strong coffee finish. Not nearly as sweet as it smells. Smooth & velvety with minimal carbonation. Lacing left entire glass "frosted".

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at the San Antonio Saucer. Poured a near opaque body topped with 1-inch of creamy, off-white head that left lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is roasty, fresh coffee, light sweetness and some milk chocolate. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, day-old coffee and lightly sweet. Very fine carbonation with a full mouthfeel. Short (coffee) bitter finish thatís slightly earthy. Better than expected.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On nitro at the Kalamath brewpub in Denver. Pours a cascading, deep brown body that ends up black and leaves a finger-width, very creamy, brown head that takes fovever to dissipate and leaves lots of lacing. The nitro takes a bit away from the aroma, but not as much as most. Rich chocolates, caramel, and a soft, sweet roast. Flavor is more enhanced with a nice, sweet, creamy roast. Some very rich chocolates and cream, caramel, and a hint of hops as well. Finishes very smooth, somewhat dry, and roasty with plenty of chocolate. Lengthy aftertaste of sweet cocoa and roast. Full, smooth, creamy body. Overall, a nice stout. One of the better nitro pours out there. It would probably be better without it, but it remained aromatic and flavorful. Glad to have had at the brewpub.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nitro tap at the Saucer SA. Dark black pour with a creamy milky head. Has an interesting aroma; pipe tobacco, cough syrup, and attic dust. VERY creamy mouthfeel. Cough syrup flavors remain, but introduces rich coffee bean, bitter malts and dryness. The finish is actually pretty gentle. If only the syrup flavors would dissipate, this would be rockin.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at Breckenridge Ball Park Brew Pub in Denver. The beer is an opaque dark brownish-black color with a medium thick and creamy tan head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Doughy malt, chocolate and roasted notes in the nose. Medium, smooth body with flavors of sweet roasted malt, chocolate and mild coffee. The finish is short and roasty with a touch of coffee on the back end. Slightly above average overall.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at flying saucer. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a large frothy tan head that lasts awhile leaving good sticky lacing. The aroma is a sweet roasted malt with chocolate and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with a strong coffee and roasted malt. Very rich with a smokey flavor and a nice lingering sweet finish. A very good stout from Breckenridge.
