Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown/mahogany color with a mocha tan head that dissipates rather quickly. However it does produce some rather nice lacing on the glass. It also appears to be a tad to watery and thin just from looking. Aroma is slightly roasty with a small note of coffee backed with sweet malt. Flavor is exactly what you would think from the name. It’s a nice creamy, smooth porter with a just right kiss of vanilla. There are notes of chocolate and a subtle, almost coffee finish. Very delicious!! Mouthfeel is full and smooth. This thing just slides down your throat and leave that wonderful taste lingering in your mouth.

I’m not convinced that vanilla and beer make a good pair, and that is only because empirical experience says that the vanilla gets drowned out. Well, the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter rocked that assumption. Gourmet milk chocolate, vanilla bean ice cream and a little cranberry make a sweet and eccentric flavor. It’s not dessert, but still distinguished for its association with the sugary peak of the food pyramid. Simple, yet effective. The aroma is sweet and inviting too - blueberries, black currant and pine resin make an entirely different but persistently sweet drink all around. I don’t usually have nice things to say about about Breckenridge Brewery’s beer, but this one is definitely a cut above the rest.

Courtesy of Fonefan. Dark brown with a red hue and a nice head. The vanilla aroma is very clean and nice, and I also find notes of roasted malt and a little coffee. The flavour has a vanilla-sweetness, notes of roasted malt, light coffee and a roasted bitterness in the finish. It’s a nice vanilla porter, not cloying as many other vanilla porters/stouts, and it has a lot of flavour in spite of the only 4,7%.

Very pleasantly surprised by this offering from Breckenridge Brewery. Porter isn’t my 1st choice style, yet this has a very smooth and impressive character with an enjoyable vanilla aroma and taste. Minimal head and no lacing in the dimpled glass. The roasty, nutty, smoky flavor is more subtle, replaced with a nice dark chocolate presence. Nearly zero coffee essence, so that may be why I enjoy it more, as strong coffee or espresso aren’t my top beer flavor. Well done.
