3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very dark but clean copper. Has a small light tan head with moderate carbonation. The initial aroma was almost sour but quickly turned to mild malt, cocoa, and faint vanilla. The flavor however is pretty big vanilla. Also malt, chocolates and nutty. Not bad.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Dark brown color. Light aroma of chestnuts, caramel and milk chocolate. Bad flavor of cheap chocolate, not as bad as the Floris, but in that direction. Very difficult to drink.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2009 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with ruby highlights and a small dark tan head. The aroma was tangy, roasty, malty and had a moderate vanilla element. The flavor was lightly bitter, roasty and had a moderately strong vanilla (somewhat artificial) flavor and a light floral hop presence. Nice. My wife like this one much better than I did though.

Pours inky black with small tan head. Nose is woodsy vanilla and malt. Flavor of vanilla, oak, very nutty and creamy, quite mild. Creamy, very good mouthfeel. I like it a lot.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
33 cl bottle, Fargo. Cola like appearance, with a head that lasts a bit longer. Medium malt aroma, Quite sweet, massive vanilla hit, then a sweet/bitter finished mingled with the vanilla. Not really my style but certainly worth a taste.

Its been a while since I have had a porter and can hardly wait for this one. Nice dark body with red highlights and a medium dark tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with a bit of molasses. Flavor is delicious. Sweet malts with lots of roasted notes. The vanilla is subtle but has a pleasant impact. Chocolate flavor is a dry dark variety. Some dark fruit shows up late. This is such a drinkable beer!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark, dark reddish body with a wispy, off-white head.
Smell: How upsetting. Incredibly weak aroma of sour grains with a tinge of herbaceousness to it.
Taste: Light, sour malt taste with a mild milk chocolate flavor. Only the faintest hint of vanilla crops up midway and lasts into the chocolate water finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Woefully weak and unappealing.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours black with a not so large khaki head. Vanilla is real? Really? Reaks of synthetic vanilla syrup, or at least my bottle did. Once in my mouth tastes of a watery porter with overly bitter, metallic hops. I did not enjoy this beer at all.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Overpoweringly delicious vanilla nose that hit me like French Vanilla coffee with more sweetness. Average darkness for a porter, nice tanish brown head. I’ll admit, after the first few sips, I hated this beer. The vanilla is so unusual it overpowered everything else, but as I worked through the pint it mellowed out and other flavors appeared. Thick molasses, coffee, caramel, and even some reconizable hops. Quite good. It did leave my mouth overly sticky sweet feeling, but that’s no surprise. Very interesting brew and enjoyable if you give it time and a chance.

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bah! Vanilla works well in roasted beers, but not this much vanilla. Another example of flavoring adjuncts completely out of balance. The aroma is my least favorite, with mouth-feel being a close last. The only good thing I can say is the base recipe was probably tasty before the vanilla was added. My own fault, faith got the best of me again!
