Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Sampled at WBF in Durham back in October, was on tap, poured dark with an aroma of the obvious vanilla, coffee, chocolates in roasted malts. Flavour much of the same, vanilla comes across smoothly, roasted nuts come in at the end to balance out this lovely porter. Very nice beer.

Vanilla and chocolate in the nose of this brown pour. The dark brown is topped with some mocha colored foam. Light roasted flavor with just a touch of vanilla.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is odd - yeasty, actually smells like a skunked lager. hmm. This doesnt taste right. Tastes like burning. Blech. Bad bottle or this beer is disgusting.

Bottle. Poured black with q frothy off-white head. Aroma of chocolate and a light vanilla undertone. The flavor finds vanilla, chocolate and a slight roast. Full body, soft carbonation, and sweet throughout.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Opaque medium brown color with a minimal head. Malty aroma with plenty of vanilla. I would have thought too much vanilla would be better than too little, but rethinking that now. Also, this is more of a brown ale than a porter. Kinda tastes like Vanilla Coke mixed with Newcastle.

Let me start by saying I am not a Porter fan. However this one did not impress me as much as others have. Little carbonation and n head to speak of. More than anything the after taste put me off. This one is in the bottm third of the Porters I have tried.

Bottle. Creamed amaretto, vanilla, almonds and chocolate in the nose, perfume-like at times but overall enjoyable. Smooth and resinous texture is welcomed. Vanilla is heavy but fresh, vibrant and delicious. Roast is minimal, little to no bitterness, little to no astringency. Could benefit from some more roast malt character, but overall it is a decent desert beer when consumed fresh.
