Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Dark pour with small tan head. Light nose of vanilla and roast. Flavor is cola sweet with with roast and just a hint of vanilla.

Pours a dark brown with a smallish tan head. Laces nicely as the glass empties. Aroma is tart and raisiny as is the flavor. There is a nice bit of vanilla that makes its presence known on the sides of the tongue, then recedes and lets the tart dark fruit take center stage until the final part of the swallow where it returns for a long mellow finish. A bit sour and too tart overall. If blindfolded, I may have guessed this was a somewhat turned dubbel. Missing the necessary roast to be a top rank porter.

Pours almost complete black with a tiny bit of light coming through. Almost no head. Overpowering vanilla with hints of chocolate and some roasted odors. This is a smooth porter with a large overtone of vanilla. A good pick up for someone not really into darker beers. Enough porter flavors without being to heavy or filling. Hint of burnt malt or roasted malt. Lingering vanilla in the aftertaste. Medium bodied with a lot of punch behind the flavors. I don’t know if you can have more than one. Its either the flavor or the heaviness or a combination of both. But just 1 thanks.

Pours a dark ruby brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is dark roast coffee and vanilla. Flavour continued with roast coffee and a burnt malt bitterness with a strong vanilla throughout. A little too sweet overall for extended drinking. Glad I got a single 12oz and not an entire 6 pack.

Bottle from Dain’s in Durham. Deep brown pour, off white head. All the normal porter notes-- roasted malts, lactose, chocolate-- but with a shit ton of sweet vanilla. If you want a sweet beer, go for it. Not my thing. Glad my wife ordered it so I could taste it, but would not want more than a sip. Seems to accomplish what it’s going for, though.

Draught at the brewpub. Almost black - no head. Roasted, vanilla, grainy, dryness, lactose, chocolate, nutty, light hoppy. Thin body. A bit like vanilla-coke.

A light black color, and a small but foamy head. Vanilla does not show up in the aroma. Flavor is a sweet porter with a strong vanilla note. Very little bitterness. Not a magical experience, but I love vanilla. I think it’s a delicious beer. As a beer noob I think I might overrate this one somewhat, but I really like it a lot. Flavor is where it’s at. It is a bit thin and watery.

bottle at Taco Mac. pours a light black with a 1/4’’ tan head. huge vanilla and mild coffee aroma. nice full soft body over the palate... high carbonation on the tip and through the finish. the vanilla dominates this throughout, but thats what separates this one from the normal porter. there is some mild bitterness on the finish as well. overall a nice beer, but kind of a novelty. would not want a whole 6 pack.
