Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

The beer looks the part of a well crafted brew. Is this a great porter? Eh, not really. It is a good vanilla porter. The vanilla is present but balanced and really pleasant on a colder day.

Nice smooth feel. Not much of an aroma. Good chocolate roasted flavor with the vanilla taste hitting you on the back of the tongue. It is a good porter, would drink again if available.

This is a eminently drinkable porter, a real ’go-to’ light choice when my palate is worn out from hoppier offerings. A smooth, malty and almost creamy porter with that delicate touch of vanilla on the backend which gives this a little sweetness.

12 oz bottle poured into an imperial pint. Dark brown to black although light can get through. Very little head, slight lacing. Smells of roasted malt and butter. Tastes of vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted malt and light generic hop bitterness. Body is a bit thin. Overall, unremarkable, not bad but will not buy again.

This porter poured a deep amber/red colour with minimal, tan coloured head. Scents include vanilla, roast, caramel and toast. First swig is roasty with flavours of light vanilla and caramel. A little sweet with low carbonation. Finish is sweet with malt flavours lingering.

Nice porter. Pours dark with little head. A nice vanilla porter smells great on the pour. Very little hop and super smooth. Taste great easy drinker.

The aroma is light malt caramel, the color is a walnut brown with a thin cream head. The taste is light with a stronger aftertaste of coffee. The beer is easy to drink, and overall not great.

12oz bottle - Aroma - vanilla, light chocolate Appearance - dark brown body, 2-finger tan head, average retention, nearly no lacing Mouthfeel - light mouthfeel, light carbonation, silky mouthfeel Flavor - heavy vanilla flavor, milk chocolate, touch of coffee but vanilla is the focus Overall - solid vanilla flavored porter. Breckenridge succeeded in creating something tasty and chock full of vanilla flavor. Well done.

Draft at Fado. Slightly hazy dark ruby pour that started with a good amount of off-white foam that left lace. The vanilla flavor here feels much weaker than anticipated. Aroma has a slight undesirable medicinal quality (possible that is just due to this pour being at the top of a keg on a newly cleaned line). Clean darkish malt flavors. Some cocoa. Nice drying wood tannins. Bit of a hoppy spice bite as well. Ultimately still not a winner for me.
