Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Breweryís Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Pours dark with a white to light tan head. Aroma of vanilla with flavors of vanilla and chocolate.

Bottle - Pours cola-colored with a huge foamy root beer float head. Nose is really metallic--really just a metal smell with a bit of vanilla and chocolate roast trying to peek through. Taste is much better--pungent vanilla, a little milky with nutty chocolate and a bit of lightly roasted dark malt. Fairly thin body, but real velvety with smooth carbonation. If this had a decent smell this would have been awesome.

Smooth. Not a lot of vanilla though and kind of disappointing that there's not much vanilla. Decent porter

One of the better vanilla porters that Iíve had. The vanilla adds a smooth, rich flavor and a spicy aroma. Itís not too bold nor too shy. In fact, Iíd say that the distribution of vanilla and malt is just about perfect. On the whole, itís not really a special porter, but it has its moments.

Dark pour with white head. Vanilla on the nose, with sweet and roasted malts. Taste is strong roasted malts, something I enjoy. The vanilla is also tasted. Very good porter.

12oz bottle. Tulip Glass. Minneapolis. Appearance: Very dark, almost black. Zero head. Aroma: Roasted malts. Small amount of vanilla. chocolate. Not overly complex. Taste: Mostly sweet upfront, finishes slightly on the bitter side. Short finish. Palate: Medium body. Velvety texture. Short finish. Overall: This porter is more on the sweeter side. Very litter bitterness to detect. Doesnít have a ton of vanilla aroma or flavor, but it is present. Texture is a little thin for my preference, but not too bad. Just too sweet for me in general.

12 oz. bottle. Appearance: butterscotch, slight and light brown head, clear, dark red-brown color, average lacing. Aroma: chocolate, vanilla, caramel, roast, coffee, hazelnut, Palate: medium-full body, soft carbonation, short sweet finish, creamy texture. Taste: sweet the entire time with the slightest bitterness at the end. Overall, this beer has a nice taste to it, but really is not balanced and is overly sweet after only a few sips; just not enough hops for me.

This vanilla porter has a very dark color and an average head. It has an undertone of sweetness, and the vanilla flavor is nice. Overall, it is a nice dessert beer, but not a great beer.

This is one of the best porters I have ever had. But you must drink it on nitro. I am having it at the Columbia ale house. I highly recommend this porter

"Deep brown with a light dusting of foam. Creamy caramel and fruity aroma, something like persimmon. Nice show there. The vanilla is also fairly subtle in the flavor compared to some other brews, more in the texture and deeper notes than up front, mellowing rather than charging-- which is to say, itís more like *vanilla* than many "vanilla" flavors. Thereís more emphasis on wood and cocoa, with a hint of coffee and smoke, in this taste. Itís like seeing the softer side of a good porter, and could become a good gateway to porter (and even other styles). Not complicated, not excessively bold: gently but firmly good. Just a little sticky, almost medium bodied, just the right amount of carbonation.
