COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Autumn.
A Special Georgian Ale for Brecon. This rich, dark ale is brewed with water drawn from under the hills of the surrounding Brecon Beacons National Park, and blend of pale, wheat and chocolate malts, all from Warminster’s traditional Floor Maltings, which give this beer its dark tawny-brown colouring and sweet malty flavours. Goldings and Fuggles provide the counterpoint of this extravagantly complex brew, which would have been one of the safest and most nutritious food sources of its time.

Cask (handpump) at the White Horse Old Ale Festival on 26 November 2010. Predictably, I suppose, this didn’t create to much of an impression on me after a diet of mainly imperial stouts, barley wines and the like at the festival. I’m not entirely sure what a "Georgian Table Ale" is/was but this isn’t an easy beer to classify. As if that matters. Copper colour - rather paler than the average mild, but there are some mild-like qualities. Dry malt is prominent and the mouthfeel is a little dusty. There are some roast malt accents on the palate and just a sprinkling of powdered cocoa. Just a fleeting glimpse of lactic sourness too. Decent enough but didn’t excite. Deserves another chance in less demanding circumstances - judging by other comments I think I might be underestimating this one.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Pumpclip alleges, ’A dark, rich Ale, in the style of a Georgian Table Ale’. Brown with a small off white head. Attractive honey on burnt toast aroma. Or reheated treacle tart. Taste is distinctive and surprising: sour, earthy autumnal leaf mould. Some bitterness. Enjoyable.
